Heating with waste oils

If you think its not be hot enough I'd let more air into it. Try cracking the door a little and see what happens.

Want a smokeless way of get your draft going? Use a propane torch to start the draft up your flue. I have to do this in my current house whenever its cold.

Do not open the door. The draft will take the path of least resistance which will be, up the intake. Being that your flame is directly under the intake pipe. I know, trust me on this. Nick, are you adding anything to your oil. My mix of 1 qt. diesel to 4qts oil seems to work the best. Mine does smoke until I get the stove hot maybe about 1/2 hour. The the black smoke then goes to white. You will have a oil burning smell outside. Maybe you are feeding to much oil. When I put too much oil in the stove makes a puffing sound and the door starts to raddle. I slowly increase the oil until the whole heater is warm. All of the air needs to go through the intake then up the flue. If you have large cracks around your door this could be part of the cause. I looked back at your burner, with that large top brake drum it might need more time to heat up. My small cast pan has about 1/2 the area that you have.
Keep posting your problems I had some of the same.

I see what your saying but I meant just cracking it so your not loosing the draw on the intake.

so far i have only been using straight oil. I start it and let it run for about 4 -5 minutes on the diesel i put in the burner first. As I see it warming up I start the oil coming slowly. I haven't yet put a gasket on the door or a overlay flap on the hinge side so I may be drawing too much air around the door instead of down the intake. I also put another turn in the oil line and moved my stainless steel reservoir closer. I haven't yet mixed in diesel. Was trying to avoid having to buy any of my fuel. I contacted a local restaurant for some used veg. oil from the fryers and can't wait to try that. Will probably smell like a cheap diner in the shop. The dog won't ever want to go out!
