I can't contain myself! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I just walked back in the house from a 2-1/2 hour plowing session. About 5 acres of worn out alfalfa sod is no longer. Gonna be a tomato/greenbean patch in a few weeks. There's nothing quite like shining up the ol' moldboards! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I used a set of 3X14" John Deere model 416A plows (1958-ish, intended for the 430/435 Deere 2 cylinder tractor) that I restored last fall, on the back of a Deere 2440 (60 HP) High range/1st gear. (5.2 MPH) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There's a lot of things a man can do with a tractor, but flipping sod upside down has to be the finest pleasure there is on 4 wheels. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

5 acres? 2 1/2 hours? Even if I had your set up it'd probably take me 2 1/2 weeks to do it right. Plowing- man's great frustration (or at least for me). I have a Tractor Supply 2-14 plow that drives me NUTS! I got it second hand, and am beginning to realize that the plow may be at fault. I'm truly jealous Indy!! PHOTOS!!

PICTURES? I WISH! I can't seem to get the picture posting thing worked out on here. (Pictures "too big") I've got hundreds that I'd like to post.

I took in one of those TSC plows on trade a few years back. I thought I'd use it to plow my garden. With a tractor that NORMALLY ran away with 3X16"'s, I hooked up those 2X14"s, and thought something was wrong with my tractor.... It was like there was an anchor behind it.

Plows can pull harder than all get-out, or they can just glide through the ground. The TSC (Howse?) plows sure didn't "glide".

From what I could see, the fit of the individual parts of each "bottom" left plenty to be desired. The shins didn't line up with the moldboards. The shares were blunt on the leading edge. The landslides didn't look very "streamlined". And the lack of coulters made for some "tough sledding" too.

The old John Deere plow I used yesterday was COMPLETELY rebuilt. New EVERYTHING. (Shares, shins, moldboards, landslides, wear plates, coulters, coulter hubs, tail wheel bearing, paint and decals) I put them together, and made what looked like all the neccisary adjustments. When I first dropped them in to the ground, they stopped me in my tracks. The "landing adjustment was off a mile. That had too much resistance against the landslides. After I changed that, I needed to deal with fore/aft adjustment. After a couple rounds, I had everything clicking. The old Deere plow was working like a new one. After a half acre or so, the moldboards started to shine up... Then it pulled like it wasn't even back there.

When I was growing up, we plowed about 600 acres every year. Now I have to hunt for an excuse to plow 5 acres. Sure do miss it... No-till has improved the bottom line, but hasn't done ANYTHING to make farming "more fun".

I set my camera on it's lowest setting and the size works out perfect for posting here. Gerard found this site for resizing what you already have.

Digital? If so, your camera would have come with some sort of software and it probably includes a resize feature. Next time you download pics have a look. I'm hardly an expert but there are plenty here that can help /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
