I'm very much a newbie when it comes to tractors. I volunteer to help maintain a ski / bike / hike trail system near Calumet, Michigan. Our club just purchased a used John Deere 970 (4x4) with an 80 Loader. We have a flail mower and box scraper on the way that should be here next week.

There are about 15 miles of two track ski trails we need to mow and a few roads that are getting washed out that we're hoping can be repaired and possibly rebuild an outslope to minimize further erosion. It will all be learn as we go. I been lurking about trying to gain as much insight as I can. Particularly with the box scraper.

Welcome from Nova Scotia. Hope you catch on fast. Tractorin is fun. Theres some decent flicks on u tube about using a box blade. They seem to make look easy. At least it gives you an idea how they work.

Remember, the only way to avoid failure is to never try something.( it also eliminates any possibility of sweet succes.):D

Box scraper is due tomorrow. I will be out on the trails with it in the evening. Planning on small steps until I realize both mine and the tractor's capabilities.
From some of the research I have done I'll be looking for a hydraulic top link soon.

Keweenaw , one of my favorite vacation spots.... !!! TRYING to out drink Finlanders, TRYING to swim in Lake Superior, etc... Welcome to the forum. If your tractor breaks down, you can just hitch that box scraper to some of the big skeeters you raise up there.... :)

You know the mosquitos are the reason why they closed the radar station near Gratiot Lake. They couldn't tell the difference between them and and B-52.
