The sad part about this is a couple of months from now a high degree of probability exist that a large civil lawsuit will be filed against Law Enforcement for dereliction of duty. Allegation will be they, Law Enforcement and other Civil Authorities knew the protest ride was planned and probably had the riders under visual observation and took no enforcement action to prevent them from engaging in illegal activity. The allegation will allege if civil authorities and Law Enforcement had enforced the law, no injury or death would have occurred.

I used to practice law--got out quick, because I couldn't stand most lawyers.

Nevertheless, I gotta tell you, (and NO OFFENSE intended, whatsoever) as the poster immediately above you correctly predicted, your theory will not come to fruition. It just doesn't work that way.

If you don't want to put your brains in a "brain pail," that's your business--but don't worry, the EMT's will have a disposable brain pail to put them into--at no extra charge. NOT that I'm wishing that on YOU or ANYONE else. I stick to dirt bikes, myself, as I don't trust my fellow motorists. And honestly, if I'm on an easy, 25-30mph, 1/2 mile run to the beach, on gravel, I don't wear a helmet, either. I SHOULD, but I don't.

But I should point out, against MYSELF, and anyone else who rejects helmet laws--it's actually NOT just the business of the "no helmet crowd," because if their med. care falls upon the public fisc, in terms of Medicare, etc..., that's a burden we ALL bear.

As an insurance adjuster in the late '80's, I had a claim where just the DENTAL injuries exceeded $800,000.00. What is that in today's (OilyBomber) dollars? $1.3 Million? $1.5? I dunno.(Re: OilyBomber--I call him that because I'm a REAL Liberal, and Obama is just B*sh's third term, with a tan--and no racism implied whatsoever. I don't care if he's GREEN--in fact, I'd prefer it, b/c then we'd get GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES, which we are NOT)

Okay--I said my piece. Anyone not wearing a full face helmet, when they ride their "murder cycles"--and I call them that NOT because the bikes and riders are unsafe, but because of all the texting/braindead "cage drivers" who aren't paying attention. I drive a "cage" myself [F-250] but I pay attention to the task at hand (please knock on REAL wood three times--superstitious).

Shiny side up, my friend.

People SHOULD be able to choose whether to wear a helmet or not. However, the rest of us SHOULD NOT be forced to bear the possible burdens of that poor judgement should the worst happen.
This would be the case in a perfect world, where we were free to make our own decisions, and the consequences would fall upon us also. Unfortunately, that's not real life in modern society.
I despise government intrusion in my personal affairs. I don't ride a bike, but I don't necessarily follow all the other rules forced down our collective throats by lawmakers whose sole purpose in life is to enact more and more inane rules for the rest of us to follow... To protect us from ourselves..

So, to all the riders out there that choose not to wear a helmet, whether it is the law or not, stand up for your convictions, whether you are putting your life on the line or not... I will support you, but not a lifetime in the hospital or a long term facility if I can help it!
Let the sheep that obey all the government's edicts obey the rules..

I believe in personal freedoms, and the right of people to act foolishly and put their lives in jeopardy if they so choose!

...

The firearm aspect is touchy, where we live there were hunting instructors pushing for NY to allow rifles for deer season in our zone. The problem is this zone is along lake Erie and has a lot of houses. It also has four major roads running through this narrow zone (State Routes 5, 20 and 39 as well as Interstate 90). Between all the vehicles and all the houses it didn't make sense to allow rifles here which upset a bunch. Its too hard to control where the lead will land after it leaves your barrel and the rifles have such a powerful cartridge it would endanger the welfare of the people living in this zone as well as the motorists. Heck, my grandfather had a bullet go through his bedroom wall and land on his bed from a pistol that was shot 400 yards away, they figured it hit a stone and went over the make shift backstop and over the woods and through his house wall.

...

Some areas in NC only allow center fire rife hunting from stands. I think the regs state how far off the ground the stand has to be as well. The idea being, that the angle of the shot will put any missed round into the ground.

It seems to work.

There have been a few fatalities over the years in that county but they were all from people hunting on the ground. One lady was killed when some dumb a.. shot her in her back yard. She had on white gardening gloves. He saw the white and just shot her. He should be in Central Prison but at most he got was a manslaughter conviction.

Last season a jogger was shot and killed down at Ft Bragg. The area was close to hikers and joggers but some dump a.. shot the man running on a trail. Not sure if he had on white or not. The so called hunter should be in Central Prison.

Later,
Dan

I don't like being "forced" by law to wear a seat belt. I have a good, late model vehicle with all the latest safety stuff (and I know seat belts save lives).....but I hate HAVING to wear a seat belt. I prefer having a choice on these issues.

Now, if we really want to be SAFER.....why don't we have drivers wear a 5 point seat belt, a helmet, a mouth guard, impact protection pads and remove the radios, phones, and passengers while were at it. Ahhhh.....much safer now. Where does it end? ;)

I have no problem with people making the choice to wear a helmet, or seat belt, or use any other piece of safety equipment. However, if they voluntarily chose to do so, then the should give up any chance for financial compensation resulting from injuries, even if they were not at fault.

As my daddy used to say, if your gonna be dumb, then ya gotta be tough.

So, should they be set out on the curb and left to die?

In a city about 15 miles from my home a driver for whatever reason climbed the curb and struck and killed some poor lady just out walking. Tragic accident right? Maybe some think she should have been required to be protected by a barrier or maybe she should have been forced to wear a helmet and body armor cause you never know right? Point is S--t happens and accidents happen, It's just the way it is, but every time someone passes a new law to protect us we loose a bit of freedom each and evey time.

What are the odds of a car jumping a curb and hitting a innocent person just walking compared to the odds of a motorcyclist having an accident? From my riding days I know I had to constantly ride assuming every car would pull out in front of me as it seemed like there would be at least two or three that pull out in front of me on a daily basis. Even now, you hear about a motorcycle accident almost every day but a person getting hit by a car isn't as often and usually the ones that do get hit do so by crossing the street.
