I am new to this bussiness and need help buying a subsoliler.

I like the Miskin 5 shank subsoiler but it's quite pricey.

Does anyone have on hand experience with Miskin ?
Is it worth the money ?

This is what I was quoted :

"A 5 shank subsoiler with standard points will cost $6106.00 US. plus
freight
You can upgrade to carbide points for $42.00 US. each.
Gauge wheels can be added as an option for $650.00 US.
The working width is 100 inches wide.
Miskin subsoiler weights 2068 pounds
"

Thanks for your help !

No familiar with a Miskin, but if it is similar to classic subsoilers, then I have a question for you...:)

So you have a 150 hp tractor?

The Subsoiler:

This consists of rigid steel shanks which do not invert the soil.

Pre-tillage operation.
Breaks up compacted layers 16"(40 cm) or more below soil surface.
Allows deep percolation of water.
Allows deeper root penetration.
Requires 30 h.p. per shank. Ideal where drainage tiles have been installed.
Must be done when the subsoil is dry.
A rigid Shank.
Diesel fuel requirements:
Subsoiler - 2.1 gal/ac for loams (23.581/ha)
- 2.84 gal/ac for clays. (31.89 I/ha)

Thanks for your answer,

They claim because of " Unique parabolic shank, and swept back "V" frame make this subsoiler very easy to pull, while providing excellent deep tillage and ground breakup" you only need 20HP per shank.

"Working depth is 18 inches
Requires 20 horsepower per shank.
Warranty is 1 year on the parts and 90 days on the labor
"

If I buy it ( 5 shanks) , I am planning to use it once or twice a year with a Kubota M105 (105HP)

I grow cassava, need to allow tubers to grow easily, break the hard pan ETC.

Subsoiler by Miskin , if you want to see it !

What do you think ?

Hey, test their advertising spiel...if your 105hp can't handle it...take it back to them...:D

Just make sure they know your plans in advance...then you might find out if they stand behind the 20hp per shank statement...

5 shanks? 105 horse power? may the force be with you. I dont think HP will be the issue but tractor wieght. I pulled a 5 shank years ago behind a 150 HP jd that was 25,000 pounds and it wanted to spin half the time in hard soil. Now if you have FWD that may help but i think it will still stop the tractor. Keep us posted as i would like to know if it will handle it.

25000.00 pounds , that's a lot of tractor.
The Kubota , give or take 8000.00 pounds, four wheel drive.

Will keep you posted
