Since you mentioned 'light rust' sandblasting seems like overkill. Wouldn't sanding to remove the rust followed by a good anti-rust primer then paint suffice?

There are supposed to be tubes put in the tire before it is loaded. Sounds like it wasnt' done in this case.

The need for a ballasted tractor isn't exclusive to tillage work. I live in hilly country. We need a heavy tractor to move hay wagons. Traction equals safety and control.... Just for giggles, try backing a loaded hay rack in a barn while the ground's wet, with an under-weighted tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hook a heavy tractor the hayrack and it will just sink. Thats why all our tractors are front wheel assist.

Maybe you didn't read my post and surely not my bio, but I grow forage so no animals. I'd never use antifreeze in tires, nor beet pulp, nor CaCl nor windshield washer fluid. Nothing but compressed air.

Loaded tires in an ag application are for tillage and that's even getting old school. In my business, the lighter the footprint of the prime mover, the less impact on the forage plant.

If I need some counterweight for the FEL and most times I don't, I'd just put on the rear spear and hang a round bale out back........edible counterweight. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The only thing I'd add to Daryl's post about filling tires without thinking is getting to be a thing of the past.

Farmers are learning proper ballasting and you see more weight bars and front 3 point hitches loaded with weight matching what they have on the back to get their ratio right.

If you use Calcium Ch, be sure to use tubes and when you spot the first sign of a leak (no matter how slight) STOP and have the tire repaired. Most damage to rims is caused by a slow leak that has went on for months or years and the owner justs kept adding air every 3-4 weeks. This leads to serious rim rust proplems real quick--Ken Sweet

I would take that junk out of your tires and make up for the loss with wheel weights or additional cast iron added to the 3-point. If and when you need less weight it's a LOT easier to shed pounds than with filled tires.
