Not trying to be offensive at all. Felt kinda like a crazy person. This will be the biggest check I've ever written.

I had been looking for months and sort of knew what I needed from reading other threads. Always thought the 5660 was a good tractor for me but too expensive. Dealer has had it for 4 months and wants to sell it pretty bad.

Good to know about backhoes. He would take 32 for that MX he said. Gonna be too much $ after transport and other implements needed for used machine.

Looked closely at Barlows inventory but have failed to make the call. Need to do that.
Sorry, meant to put a smiley in that comment. I'll fix it. :)

I "started" casually looking for a second tractor after I bought my first in 2009. I got the appropriations from SWMBO in August 2012. I was probably a pain on this board with picky pointed questions from then until almost February 2013 when I brought home my M4700.

Hi,

I've been lurking a while, and am finally ready to take the plunge.
As far as dealer selection in my area (nearest town is 25 miles), we have:
<snip>

However he had a similar thread back in 2010. Poor guy has been wanting for a tractor for 6 years.

You're right. I think its the one. Just a little sticker shocked on a bottom line of 37.7 w/ grapple, bush hog and tax.

You guys think a Land Pride RCR 1872 for $2195 and a Dirt Dog LP AGR72 grapple for $1875 are a good package? I'm not opposed to buying used implements as an alternative.

Personally, in that size, I'd go with a LP RCR2672 which is what I did or the Woods BB720X, both a bit over 1000 pounds and cutting capacity of 3", mine has about five years of pretty heavy use.

Some will want a wider cutter, but the price really goes up when you go to a dual spindle, you can get a 7' single spindle, but I looked at one and didn't like it. You might look at something like a LP RCR3696 or similar in another brand. For our use, we use a Woods DS1260, but we have 60+ acres on one farm and can't use a batwing, tried it. A 6' will handle your acreage probably better than your bank account can stand a big cutter.

I can't help on the grapple, we use a couple of Loflin grapples which work well for us, but most other TBN members know a lot more about grapples than I.

Not sure how much time you have but you may want to watch Craigslist for a used Rotary Cutter. I have bought several over the years and never spend much. Mostly between $200-$500. Some for friends and some to use and ended up selling later on for a different size. Some of the old ones are good and heavy duty.
I run a 6' single on a MX5100 and it does great. Use it in the woods to make trails, and cut some fields with it. I think I have $275 in it and a few hrs of works (back had a bend and I repainted it. Easily cuts 2" stuff without any issues.

Oh oops, funny how inflection doesn't come through on the internet. My misunderstanding.

Yeah TBH it feels like stealing getting all the free info from you guys and around this site. Really helps to have a different perspective than the dealer's. I know my questioning is excessive, but I kinda want to be treated like a rank beginner to learn more. And although I have helpful experience with equipment, I am a beginner with tractors.

I know most people wait a long time, 6 years is rough! We have had use for a tractor on this property my whole life and much longer, and about 3 years ago I decided it was going to happen. Been looking casually and saving $ ever since. Mostly there with the budget, and now is not a bad time for our family to make this purchase tax-wise. I've put a lot of effort in with dealerships in the last couple of weeks and feel pretty ready. Tomorrow might be the day.

Exactly how I feel about it. 6'. The extra couple of hours a few times a year are not going to kill me.

Having the closer dealer put together a package on his rock bottom number (which is now going to be much lower than the last time he told me it was the rock bottom) on the m5660/loader/3rd valve, BH26 or LP 2672, and a grapple not sure what he's going to try to sell.

Gonna compare that to the other deal that's on the table. With those guys, I'm going to ask them to step up the cutter to the 2672 or a BH26 for the same price. If they will I'll probably take that package. I like that they offered me a good price on the tractor without haggling too much.

I feel bad for the close guy, he's hungry for the sale but he's playing too many salesman games. I just don't like him or the dealership as much even though its quite a bit closer.

I sort of have time, although the fields need mowing pretty soon. Currently over knee-high. Maybe a month or so, we usually have it done in June.

I like the sounds of the prices you're talking. Now that I'm gonna blow the budget on a bigger tractor it would be nice to save a few thousand haha.

I also Have an EA Wicked and like the design, and the company. If I were ordering one right now I would go for the EA Utility Grapple for my tractor but it wasn't announced when I got mine.

Here is a spreadsheet I made up last year and I added the EA Utility models to the list.

What do you plan on doing with the grapple? I looked up the brand / model you mentioned. The design is very different from what I have. Probably good for picking up one log at a time and for tearing roots out. Probably looses a lot of brush carying capacity by having no bottom tines.
