Skunks around here eat chickens. That's competition.

There's a guy in town who traps a lot of skunks. He swears that they can't spray if they can't lift their tails and the traps he uses are small enough that they can't lift their tails.

He "eliminates" them with his truck's exhaust.

I have no soft spot for animals poaching from my garden or trees. "Re-locating" them is like dumping your garbage in someone else's back yard.

"Ok as for the possum in question, it will not be a problem for my garden or anybody elses. It is currently providing nourishment for the buzzards that need food too."

I know it's tongue and cheek- but vultures are useful in cleaning up rotting animal carcasses. When you shoot your critter - don't use lead pellets if you want to keep your "garbage disposal system" working well. The lead pellets give them lead poisoning and all that goes with it - just like in people!

Everybody knows, all you have to do is hold the skunks tail down, just grab the neck and hold down the tail:D Post photo if you do it !!:laughing:

I have live trapped a bunch of skunks and the tarp/blanket's work like magic as Moss posted.

I was pretty amazed at that little skunk in the trap. It was just calmly walking around in there sniffing every side and corner. When it saw me, it turned sideways, pointing its rear end at me and looked over its shoulder right at me. So I got the tarp and held it up in front of me and walked slowly towards the trap. The skunk ignored me. If I peeked over the top far enough, the skunk would assume the position. I'd duck behind the tarp and he went back to sniffing around. I repeated this many times just to be sure. If it didn't see me, I was not a threat.

I had to carry it about 50 yards around the garage to the woods in back. It was a bumpy walk and I could smell it just a bit, but I don't think it ever sprayed as the tarp didn't smell after the skunk left.

When I pulled the tarp, I ran one way and it ran the other. It got about 20-30 feet away from the trap, stopped, and raised its tail and gave us a "look", then put its tail down and waddled into the woods. :)

Man you guys must have some mad skunks, I've caught them and just walked up to the trap (slowly) picked it up and put in the back of my truck, drove 5 miles away and released it, no tarps, no drama, no running away.

I've found they give you all kinds of warning when they are getting agitated. I haven't been sprayed yet, my brother did though  bringing out the garbage in the dark, must of corner one.
