Sounds like my uncle. Told him he should update his web site and he misunderstood me and responded that he just did an upgrade of $70,000 /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif!!
He obviously thought I said/meant his computer system not the web site /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif . He's got no clue either on how this stuff works. G

I am actually pretty well versed in most things based on technology, and push our company forward on a regular basis. But I don't know if the digital projector I have will work to project a DVD up on a wall and power a sound system, etc. Or even if the presentation style digital projectors are suitable for entertainment use.

I guess I meant to say that I don't about projection TVs that are suitable for connecting to a DVD player and playing movies to a large roomfull of soldiers?

And the 30 DVD's is after having a collection box set out for 3 days /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I plan to keep the box there til the end of the month and then send them to Bob. We'll see what some dag gum city employees will pony up for our troops.

Bob:

Might you have access to the instructions? They should give you the information your looking for. Just a thought. G

GerardC. . . no need for me to look up the instructions, I am not donating a projector. The Boy Scouts may sell the duplicate copies of the DVDs that are collected and try to raise frunds to buy a projector, but I am donating a DVD player, and I am donating DVDs plus I am sending a bunch of DVDs that I am collecting.

I would still ask that if anyone has any DVDs that they no longer watch, or if they would like to buy some DVDs and send them to the troops, please send them to me at my office:

Bob Skurka
c/o City Sales, Inc
2552 Industrial Drive
P.O. Box 9038
Highland, IN 46322-9038

The first shipment will be going to Camp Atterbury in early June. If you would like your donations included in that first shipement, please mail it to me no later than the last day of May. DVDs collected after that point will be shipped directly to Afghanistan to Camp Phoenix.

Hi all,
I just wanted to give you an update on our status. At this point I have something over 200 DVDs to send and a couple of you have promised to send me some additional titles. I also have another dozen or so that I bought on Ebay that I will be adding, plus we will officially start collecting DVD's from our employees next week.

Of the 300, I would say that 75 have come from TBN, and I really want to thank everyone who has helped. And if anyone else wants to send some, we will keep collecting these for at least another month.

I think it is safe to say that we will have 300 DVD's to put into the hands of Charlie Company, 113th Support Battalion at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan.

Bob,

Our box will be in the mail on Tuesday. I suppose it should get to IN by the end of the week or the next. Fitting to packaged things up on memorial day. Its only 6-7 DVDs but it sounds like they are going to have a heck of a library. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wish there was a way to get them some beer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dan McCarty

Hey guys, thanks for the help!

We've been busy affixing clear labels on all the DVDs that say Property of C Company 113th Spt Btn and making up a "library card" system that is affixed to the backs of the boxes.

Something tells me that they will have nearly enough DVDs so that they can watch a different movie every night and never see the same one twice!

My box will be in the mail today or tomorrow at the latest.

Thanks for doing this for the troops.

Inspector507 . . . just wanted to let you know the box of DVDs arrived via FED EX today. Lots of good titles in there too!

And you may have thought the music CDs were unusual, but there were a couple really good groups included in that stack of CDs you sent with the DVDs.

Thanks again.

You mean these are NOT for my personal collection? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I actually got your package today, and a shipment from a seller on EBAY that I bought a bunch of DVDs from. I've found some of the sellers on EBAY have actually thrown in free DVDs for the troops when I write them asking for discounts on shipping when I tell them what I am doing with the DVDs.

This project is taking on its own life, something far more than I expected. One of the ladies at my office is having a garage sale and is offering to sell anything for anyone, but she has the condition that 50% of the sales price is going to buy more DVDs. I plan on filling up my SUV with some old golf clubs, a bike, and some other things for her to sell for whatever she can get for them. I would have called someone to haul them out for me, so all the money will go to the troops from the sale of my old stuff. Hopefully some of the other employees will give 100% of the sales price to the cause, but even if they only give 50% it will still be money that can be used to buy more DVDs.

By the way . . . the OTHER THING that our troops seem to ask for is BOOKS. So if someone wants to start up a drive to collect paper back books that we can send to our troops, count me in on sending you some. My wife reads a novel or two each week and we have a case out in the garage I've been threatening to toss.

Bob,
I'll be honest........I was so disappointed to only be able to send you that amount. But I have made it known around work that if they still want to donate, I'll keep sending them to you. I'm sure you have some help from your employees in this endeavor, please don't forget to recognize them as well.
I applaud anyone who wants to give up a little time or money to help out our troops while they are serving the US. I
hope the other country's represented in this forum do the same for their troops.

Best wishes my friend,
Jerry

Inspector507: I think the box you sent was a great addition!

This friday our company newsletter goes out and we will announce to the employees what I have been doing. As of now, there have been 3 of us involved in this project but several have asked what all the DVDs were for that we keep categorizing and labeling. So then word spread around the company and people asked to help. We decided to wait until the official company newsletter to ask for help becuase that would make sure we get the word to all shifts.

But as for recognizing people who helped, I think the real people we need to recognize are the troops, not the people who collected the DVDs. Least of all me and the employees who are doing this during working hours.

Another package arrived via FED EX from RobS today.

It is really nice that everyone is pitching in for this and I just want to thank everyone again. Most of the shipments that have come in contain 1 to 4 DVDs, and all those have really added up. Every once in a while I get a big shipement. But what really matters is that people are providing support for these men & ladies who have put their lives on hold to serve.

Afghanistan is almost forgotten about in light of all the activity in Iraq, but our folks are still fighting & dying there. Conditions are pretty bad, especially for the ladies in service there, most are confined to the base they are assigned to because the culture of the Taliban runs very deep in the society and frowns on women in general and forbids women from even helping an injured man or injured male child.

Again thanks again to all. And if anyone thinks it is too late to send over disks, don't worry, we will keep collecting them, and shipping over packages for at least the next year.

Dan, I think we are just under 300, but I have word that there are more coming. I am very confident that we will exceed 300.
