Any 2-3 bolt puller will work, as long as it fits in the space.
Take note of the mounting ear that has the timing line on it.. it should be lined up w either a timing mark in the block or degree marks..
Once u pop the gear loose, DO NOT MOVE THE GEAR..or the machine..
If it makes u feel better, degrease the gears and make a magic marker mark across the gears from 1 to the other..

Kool..
Take care of that shut off bar question and hope it pumps..
Good luck

I popped the top off again. I don't think this pump has a shutoff bar.

Look for a way to hook heater hoses from your tractor to your pickup. You can use the heater hose connections and buy a couple extra long pieces of hose to run between your tractor and your pickup. If you can't find a way to attach hoses to the tractor, consider making a T to go in the radiator hose.and buy a cheap radiator cap to add another inlet to the coolant system.
Running your pickup to warm the block up, while also charging the battery with jumper cables will help in getting it started once you have the fuel issue fixed.
Good luck,
David from jax
I don't have a clue about anything else here but
before doing a coolant hookup probably make sure both systems use the same type of coolant?

I looked around in my barn where I put unusual tools, I happened to have a homemade puller that will work for me. Must've picked it up somewhere at a rummage sale. Didn't even know what it was. It has the center screw so I just need to pick up two bolts that will fit the hole's/threads inside the timing cover whatchyamacallit. I tried all the bolts I have and they weren't the proper threads. Since my JD 6400 was manufactured in Germany, most of the stuff is metric.

I need to install an engine block heater in the JD 6400, otherwise I'll have a difficult time getting it started this winter. We're at the point here in Northern Michigan where it'll be rare when temps go above freezing. In the past, I've always had issues getting this 6400 started once the weather turned cold. This week I found a corroded wire connection at the air intake heater/glow plug so that may be the reason the air wasn't getting hot enough for cold starting.

Once I get the fuel pump fixed, I have a few tarps/blankets I'm going to drape over the hood and enclose the front of the tractor. I'll put a couple portable electric heaters or maybe a kerosene space heater under the tractor to get it nice and warm and try getting it started. Once I get it started, I can work on draining the engine coolant, flush with distilled water, install engine block heater, and refill with JD antifreeze.

I removed the fuel injection pump and sent in for service. The person who is servicing my pump also highly recommended I remove all the injectors and send them to him as well for inspection and cleaning. I've never removed injectors before. When reading the manual, JD recommends to use a special tool jdg716 to remove the injectors. Is this tool necessary or can I use some other method?

They bend extremely easy..
Look at the base of the injector, I’m assuming they’re PENCIL INJECTORS.,
There’s a slot on each side of the injector.. THATS where the tool slides into..
If u bend 1, throw it away, it’s no good..
There’s no harm in trying.. he’s gonna tell u they’re ALL BAD ANYWAY..

Ok. I looked up the price of injectors and the cost is reasonable; somewhere around $33 each. I'm wondering if it makes sense to just buy 4 new injectors. I don't know what the service shop will charge to clean, inspect, and test the old injectors. Heck, it will cost me nearly $20 just to ship the old injectors to the service shop. My JD 6400 has 3,800 hours on it. How long do injectors usually last?

Taking these injectors out isn't going to be easy. Looks like I'll have to remove the turbo and the air intake, exhaust pipesjust to get to the injectors. Might have to even remove the Air Conditioner unit. Oh, boy!
