If you are turning the horses out to eat this spring- I am sure you know this, but be careful of founder. Introduce the pasture- 15 min per day for a few days, then 30 min, then an hour, then a couple of hours. It gives time for their digestion to adjust and so as to avoid colic and rolling and a twisted gut. Also- pasture is sparse after the snow, but as it begins to grow- it comes in very lush, to lush too fast and the horses over eat and end up with problems. - In the fall, watch out for gorging on apples on the ground. Thankfully our two have not learned to pick them out of the tree! - We can't leave ours out all of the time until after the frost. Have an arabian (prone to founder) and a hackney pony (colics easily).

For riding- I mow an upper ring with a sears ztr , and a few jumps on the outside. I let the rest grow tall and in the late summer after nesting, before the goldenrod is out, I bush hog it. The riding area is like a lawn and the tall grass gives a nice visual cue.

You can get power steering kits to put on your IH.----I just installed a made up power unit for a guy out here,---not too hard to find units that bolt right on that tractor! thanks; sonny 580
