Have you tried swapping the FS and Start relays?

Zebrafive, Thanks for the response............. Something hit me this morning (after all this time). I'm going to take my multi-meter out and check the V output on another vehicle's battery, one I know is fully charged and purchased in the last year. Just want to make sure if the multi-meter is reading 10V across the board or just the tractor's battery (hope not). I remember reading people indicating the battery was charged but in the end old battery causing problems, just wondering............ As I wrote in a past post I got 10V output (after trickle fully charged), that same voltage carried on all of your initial detailed testing. But as I also mentioned when doing dieselcrawler's (using jumpers) simultaneous + current from battery to Pull-in/Hold-in, the solenoid retracted so it seems it had enough juice from the battery for it to function, hiiimmm I'll check and report back. Finally got some moisture here in SW NH in the form of 2 inches (with associated power outage @ 1:30AM because many trees still have leaves, limbs falling on lines) + 5 hours of steady rain......we needed it.

No, I remember dieselcrawler also suggested swapping that but in my response, I thought they were somehow interconnected + now the ordered parts are coming + can't return. I can try that today if you feel it would further the troubleshooting.

Process of elimination. Swap relays, if problem changes with swap, and then back, it can prove the relay is the problem. On mine, you can hear the fuel pump, so turning on the key, hearing the fuel pump, then swapping relays, no more fuel pump sound, bingo... You just proved it was bad relay. If its easy to do, worth a try.

Thanks for the response, I know you recommended doing that a while ago.........Yes agree, just need to get out there and work thru it. I also need to take some time to look at the wiring, I noticed in the posted PIC (zoomed-in) looks to be some wear/damage to harness jackets, will report results in the afternoon tomorrow. Checked mail today, No JD 790 Shop Manual on CD nor (2) ordered Relays.....interesting.............

dieselcrawler, Zebrafive,

As they say: "Good News for Modern Man"........an hour after my quote above UPS showed-up and WHAA-LAA, parts & CD.........

First thing I did was to check the battery current again @ Noon today, 12V strong although the JD Battery was purchased in 2011 (a bit worried when I saw the receipt) I think after this episode I'll go-ahead & purchase a replacement after I remove the FEL & before I mount the JD 59" Front Mount Snow blower. Been reading Interstate is pretty good but I'll check-out threads on TBN...... Don't need a dead battery in the middle of a storm........

I didn't plan on returning the new OEM relays so installed both of them (really tight in there, didn't want to remove instrument panel) lots of Navy Language coming out :censored: re-taped the K2 Fuel Relay harness behind the Ignition switch Panel, noticed a little critter munching on the 650 Wht/Blu wire jacket so taped-it-up tight. Plugged in the Ignition Switch Panel and first try, Y2 Fuel Shutoff Solenoid (still out) stong retract.........O-YEA !!! :D So, not done yet, the space to install the Solenoid is really tight :smiley_aafz: also have to locate the old O ring, didn't see it pop-off, I suspect more Navy Language coming out but hopefully I'll get it finished today..........

So, dieselcrawler, Zebrafive, I want to thank you for the hand-holding & spoon-feeding of one who hasn't messed with this stuff before. :applause: Let's see, spent $32.80 X 2 for the Relays, $52.00 for Shop Manual on CD (always nice to have) and $1.64 for a replacement Rubber O Ring for the Solenoid + TOTAL: $119.25 vs. the local JD pick-up/deliver charges of $250.00 before even addressing the issue I'm feeling GREAT so.........Cheese & HOT Jalapeno Nachos + Multiple Perfect Margaritas :drink:

Glad to hear it... Congrats!

So failed FS relay was the cause of FS not working? Glad you fixed yourself and saved some $$
