Buying Advice Help me find a tractor to manage my 40 wooded acres

The last two digits in the model number.

XX60 is current, Tier 4 emissions compliant.

XX40 one iteration earlier, Tier 3 emissions compliant. (?)

XX20 two iterations earlier.

Once your begin spending all night on T-B-N you will absorb this arcana by osmosis.

Tractors are just a start.

IMPLEMENTS are where you can spend infinitely. I prudently add (sneak in) new ones when wifey is traveling. I cover my outdoor stored implemants with identical cotton canvas, olive green tarpaulins. Just anonymous, undifferentiated humps in the verdure.

Really, she does not care, but it is more fun conspiring.

Still, cheaper than boats.

Here is the implement I wish I had purchased first: TR3® Rake - Tractor Implement - ABI Attachments

Jeff,
So what's the best place to look for implements? Tractorhouse.com is not doing it for me.

Obtain opinions on T-B-N. Learn to search the T-B-N archive.

I mostly buy new. I sell any implement that sits via eBay.

Used: Craig's List, eBay, your local newspaper, referrals from T-B-N correspondents. (When you have a usable location in your T-B-N profile.) Sales via the web, directly or indirectly, are probably how most used implements move.

My Kubota dealer has been gratis intermediary on two exchanges: sale of my predecessor Kubota B3300SU and sale of a King Kutter Rotary Cutter.

When Craig's list fails to deliver, go to eBay (for pallet forks, anyway) and check out Everything Attachments, a supporter of TbN. Never bought from them, but plenty of other guys have, they have a good range of useful implements, they deliver, and pricing seems very fair. They have a great reputation.
As for Grand L's vs. regular L's, first clue is the heavy rubber floor mat. A couple hours looking at them both will clear things up. In my mind, it's extra money well spent, if you have it to begin with, or if the tractor is something more than just some iron that's useful sitting out back. And Jeff got you started with the numbering... regular L's are **00, Grands are **30,40, so forth.

Whoops meant to quote his other post. [/URL]
I have used both models in question. The L3240 is a MUCH better tractor. The L3800 doesn't have any of the bells and whistles, has a worse 3 point hitch, has a worse transmission, the loader is quite a bit weaker, and the tractor is quite a bit lighter. If the L3800 was half the price I might consider it, but at only $1000 cheaper definitely get the Grand. The L3800 had less net hp, but more gross hp whatever the difference is, but the L3240 can pull harder and lift more with the loader and 3 point hitch. IMO the HST is better on the L3240.

I tell my wife that "Toys are cheaper than a Mistress"

Then I duck

I'm going out to test drive the L3240HST this afternoon. What should I be looking out for on a used tractor?

Make sure everything functions properly. Make sure it doesn't leak oil. Make sure the loader doesn't appear to be bent. Make sure the tires are in pretty good shape. If possible put it to work, not just drive it around.
