I think I would start checking some cut off switches.. like the seat first,, Lou

Not the seat switch as it cranks. Keep chasing the fuel issue, I think your on the correct track. I'd start at the tank and work your way to the pump. Could be a simple screen or the fuel line inlet at the tank, but you think that would cause an intermittent problem at first. I like the idea of the solenoid. Should be easy to test. Disconnect the wiring harness, apply 12vdc an listen for the operation. Good luck and make sure you let us in on the fix, it helps the next guy!

Thanks - gonna try something like this tomorrow. Dragged out 200 feet of air hose tonight, and it reaches the tractor, so will blast the inlet hose first. I've been trying to find a way to remove the hood completely so I can take off the pump on the tank. Impossible to do otherwise.
I don't think there is a "pump" in the tank, all that is up there is the sending unit that tells your fuel guage how much fuel
is in the tank.,,, so don't worry about taking the hood off for that..

I had a 2320 that did the same thing a couple of times & also read where other 2320 owners had the issue also.

My problem was insects got into the tank & clogged the fuel pickup. I could not figure out how the in insects were getting into the tank because my fuel cans had screens on the spouts & caps. What I discovered was that I had I did not always get the caps back on & the insects were getting in the spout between uses on the fuel can.

Has the fuel filter filled back up with fuel?

Re: HELP - My 2320 stopped dead while using it. Won't restart - FIXED

So this was a PIA, but it is running again and I have a blurry photo (and I smell like diesel)!

The photo shows the fuel filter assembly. I ended up taking off the filter and removing the assembly from the tractor (one bolt pictured) which gave just enough slack to look at the bottom of it. Short story - blowing air through the bottom left port with the valve OPEN sent air into the full tank bottom and cleared something from the tiny catch basin at the bottom of the tank, upon which my hands, watch, and jacket sleeve were covered in fuel before I could shut it off. The rubber gloves were useless. I still smell it.

The longer story - I had pumped most of the fuel out of the tank, but my pump wasn't long enough and I wouldn't have been able to clear this mysterious basin anyway. The basin isn't visible until the filter assembly is removed and a flashlight used to trace that left hose. The top/middle hose goes to the top of the fuel tank, I tried clearing it with air first. I did all this with the fuel cap removed and I noticed steam-like fumes come out each time, regardless of the hose. The hose to the right goes to the fuel pump on the side of the fuel injector. There is another fuel hose coming out of the top of the tank and I never was able to trace that one, but it appears to go back to the bottom of the tank - maybe. I never took the fuel sending pump apart, but at least part of it's purpose is the fuel level sensor. The rest of it is a mystery still today. I think it must add pressure to the tank though, which would explain the strange steam coming from the tank while open.

After reassembling the filter, I fired it up with quite a delay. I kept manually pumping the lever on the side of the fuel pump and increased the throttle too. Eventually it fired and stayed on. I had recharged the battery overnight. I celebrated and then added more Seafoam to the tank. I have no idea what is in there, but Seafoam should dissolve it eventually, unless it is something hard. Are there diesel beetles or something than can bring crap into there? Also I detached the hood support and pushed the hood a little higher - just enough to make it workable really.

Great to hear you're running again. Do you think not running too low on fuel will minimize the potential for this to happen?

Lot of work. Glad it is running again. Good job. Might want to flush/clean the tank before putting it back in full service again ???

Don't put the jacket or other clothing in the wife's washer or you will have a problem. Hand Wash all items after soaking in a strong solution of simple green prior to placing in the washer. Simple green is the only thing I have found that will remove the diesel smell.

I wasn't low enough that I would expect a problem. It took about 4 gallons to fill when the problem occurred (supposedly it holds 6 I think). I pumped that much back out during trouble-shooting. I've certainly run lower before. The tiny reservoir at the bottom appears to be about 1" by 1" by 1", so I don't see how the level could really matter unless I'm actually empty. I saw nothing strange in the fuel I pumped out.

Awesome. I told the wife to try that :).

It is such tight working quarters in this engine that I don't think I can flush or clean it. I'm going to let it run almost dry next I think, since I know how to clear it now. Hopefully whatever it is will just go into the fuel filter next time. By then I will have the service manual on CD to check and see what they say about it. I'm certainly thinking I need to recruit some mechanics in the area to work for me. I would have paid a premium to get someone else to fix this if I could have. Too urban I guess. So jealous when I go on vacation in the middle of nowhere and there are like 3 tractor dealers on the same corner. My family will never let me stop to shop.
