Mark, I don't have a clue about the adapter but I was curious as to why you didn't get a JD hoe. By the way, your hoses don't look in the best shape.

glenn,
As john said, Ameriquip is the maker of JD hoes. I did not know about the other names, even I learned something.
Thanks John!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
My JD 950 and it's backhoe are 14 yrs. old so my backhoe is all Black in color and say Ameriquip on it rather than being Green and saying John Deere.
As for the hoses, they are actually in better shape than the picture makes them out to be. All knicks and abrasions are strictly surface items and they reflect a machine that is 14 years old with 2060 hours on it. I may have to replace them eventually but they wern't and still aren't top on my priority list. Top item is getting the loan paid off ASAP.
I have already knocked approx. $2,000 extra of the loan in the first year by just adding an extra $30.00 a month to my payment.
Watch, now one of the hoses will let go today while using the tractor to do some yard work.
glenn, It will be all your fault, Cuz you brought em up.

Mark,
All you need to do is soak it down really well with WD-40. Wait a little bit. Hold down the pin (clamp, tape, or another person). Get you a short pry bar and wood block. Put the block against the tractor and pry easy. As you pry, rotate the pto shaft to keep from jamming it. It may to quite a while and a lot of WD-40, but you can get it off this way.
I always keep a can of WD-40 on the tractor. Before putting any PTO implement on, always spray the shaft.

Jerry,
Been there, done that. Actually everything is loose / free and working. Meaning the spring loaded release pin functions fine and the adapter is isn't froze on. ie. it wiggles and moves back and forth a little.
As many have stated / suggested ( thank you all ) it may well be a matter of finding the right combination of, turning the pin to line the notch up with the groove in the PTO shaft and as bgott mentioned, I may be pushing the pin in to far.
If it weren't snowing and just plain cold and raw outside, I would go out and play some more. But Alas !! drinking coffee and doing inside domestic chores is whats happening on the home front today. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If everything is loose the pin must be not going in far enough or is defective. I would use a C-clamp with a small nut as a spacer between the pin and C-clamp so you can push the pin a little past flush. If that don't work wrap a wet rag around the base of the PTO to soak up any heat and cut off the pin housing with a 3" or so cutting disc on a small electric/air angle cutter-- one of those 10,000 to 20,000 RPM jobbers

Mark,
Try this. On the opposite end of the pin, from the side that you push down, there is a small clip. Take the clip off and the pin, spring and all will come out. If you do that you will know for sure if it's the pin thats stopping the release.

Jerry,
I looked into that very thought. Unfortunately, on my adapter the opposite end of the housing for the pin is mostly enclosed, with only a small hole in through which you can see the spring etc. No clip or any such means of getting the pin out.
It has been just to cold and raw outside here today to want to be out there fiddlin with it. I have put in some seat time doing yard work, but trying to get the adapter off today is just to much like work !!!!

Mark,
They got that pin and spring in there somehow......./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I have seen set-ups like that but never took the time to tear one apart to satisfy my curiosity I guess.

Usually there's a hole drilled in the housing perpendicular and slightly offset to the longitudinal axis of the spring loaded release pin for a retainer (roll pin or taper pin). That's what keeps the release pin from falling out.
