Had very similar problem with 1430 with 40 hrs.The neutral safety switch under floor pans control forward/reverse and of course neutral.Wires vibrated and broke machine died on the spot.Twisted wires together and bypassed neutral switch and fired up good as new .Fixed broken wire next day.Poor set up as only wire connectors were used.Dont know if 1430 and 425 are same but pretty sure similar.Please post remedy

Today, for all you interested PTers, I called Terry in Tazewell and he, as I and thee, thought it is an electrical problem. He recommended I call Jack at Robbins, which I did, who recommended that I call their area distributor in Rochester, NY, which I did. I have bought replacement PT oil filters and air filters from a local (4 miles as a crow flies) service guy who is listed as a Robbins service center. Jack just wanted the rep in Rochester to verify that K and S was authorized to do warranty work, which they are. At any rate, their mechanic is scheduled to come out tomorrow, late morning. I've got a trickle charger on the battery overnight, and I'll check the red wire tomorrow morning.

As some of you folks may know, I am a carpenter/builder. Give me a piece of wood and I can make it dance!, but I pay someone to change the oil in my truck! The whole mechanical thing, and no dealer support, was almost a deal breaker with me. Thank goodness I overcame the angst!!! At any rate, as long as something is covered by warranty, I generally feel it is best to have it dealt with by the pros....

John, I will however check out the potential loose red wire in the A.M. And thanks for the heads up.

Good evening gang.....just an update......I spoke with Jack at Robin,America, and he gave me the number of the northeast rep center in Rochester, NY. I called them to confirm that my local service guy was an authorized warranty rep. I knew they were because I had already established the relationship, but wanted to cover all the bases. They came out and agreed that it was an electrical problem....I loosened the tow nut 3/4 turn and pulled the beast onto my trailer and took it the 5 miles to their shop. Jeff looked it over, and thought it was a faulty ignition switch. I called Terry, and he overnighted one to them. It arrived the next day (Thursday) and I picked up the tractor Friday...It started right up and had worked fine, but this morning (Sunday) it repeated the old problem for about ten seconds......however, after that instance, it worked fine for the rest of today....I'll call Jeff, the service man, tomorrow, but I'm hopeful that it continues to work ....... details to follow.......

The plow is on and we're supposed to get 4-6" of snow tonight.

Glad you got going again. Intermittent electrical problems are most annoying.

Did you ever find the actual problem, or does the starter continue to run away?

I got the tractor back last week......It worked long and hard the first day,,,,,the next day, the starter repeated its not-stopping-thing once for about ten seconds, then stopped. It then started properly, and has been okay since. Terry is puzzled by it, as am I....

Incidentally, I am very impressed with PowerTrac's and Terry's timely response to customer questions/problems. In talking with Terry I mentioned the trouble I was having with cold weather starting. He suggested I change my procedure. I had been fully choking the beast and starting it at half throttle. He suggested I turn it over at full throttle, and after a few seconds when it was turning over nicely, slowly choke it until it fired up. I tried this procedure and it worked....I still expect to get one or two magnetic block heaters, but will follow this procedure until someone comes up with a better one......

Did you ask Jack Robin about the start procedures. On all the Kohler engines I have ever owned, I always use full throttle and full choke to start, and then half choke for about 2 min. Works for me. When and if it gets cold enough here in Jacksonville, Fl, I sometimes use engine start fluid.
