Traded BX in for B7610

Killer_B:

I also wanted to add my thanks for your thoughtful post, it was very useful. I'm one of those folks that's dealing with making a decision about tractor size. Although not exactly the same models, they're in the ballpark. I've been looking from the BX23 to the L3130. Kind of a big range, although I've about decided that the L3130 is probably too big for my needs. SkyPup graciously invited me to his place locally to see his L3130 and I was very impressed with the capabilities of his machine and what he has been able to accomplish with it, but I've come to think that my needs may be on a different level. I'm also concerned that the 3130 will weigh too much for lawn cutting.

Right now I've been looking between the BX23 and the B2910. I'm trying to decide if the BX23 is capable enough, and in the B series I like the telescopic lower-link and tilt steering wheel that you can only get on the 2910. But I also need/want a grapple and there may be issues with that for the loader capacity on the 2910, so I don't know what I'll pick.

Did you consider getting an oversize turf for your 2710 as a compromise between the traction you need and the excessive wear on your lawn?

Hi Rolando,

I test drove it with both tires. I decided on the R4's because they didn't tear things up any more than the turfs. In either case, it only happens when turning sharp. The outside edge of the outside front tire is the culprit. With the R4's you get a "stutter" effect. With the turfs, it's a cleaner slice. Pick your poison.

The dealer said if I changed my mind within a week or so he would swap for the turfs, no charge. I didn't take him up on the offer.

Happy shopping!

Now that you mention it, I remember someone posting that you should always mow in 2-wheel drive because the front tires would tear up the grass in 4-wheel drive. Could that be part of it?

If that's an option and you try it out, let me know how that works out.

With my B7610, i've noticed that the scuffing problem is much better if I have weight on the rear 3pt hitch. It seems to take enough weight off the front that scuffing only occurs when i'm on damp soil.

Mowing in 2wd is definitely much better than 4wd. The first time I used the tractor I mowed in 4wd by accident and my wife was a bit upset at what my new 15K toy accomplished.

There are only three things that I find irritating about my 7610. First, the handles on both fenders creak loudly everytime I grab them. I've tightened everything with no improvement. Second, the loader control endlessly chatters. Third, the 3pt hitch will drop quickly (about 1 inch per 15 min) with weight on the back (about 300 pounds) if I do not have the valve closed 100%.

I've heard about people using check chains to restrict dropping of the Kubotas that do not have true position control, but have never seen it. The two local Kubota dealers gave me funny looks when I asked for check chains. Does anyone have pictures?

Over the last 3 weeks i've moved about 70 tons of topsoil while landscaping around my pool. It was a blast!

Hi Rolando,

I have never mowed in 4WD, but have read that it makes the problem worse, which I would not doubt.

I also agree on your comments of the B7610. Esp about the exhaust. What WERE they thinking? My MMM mower handle is always full of soot.

I notice the hydro jerkyness esp when mowing. From a dead stop it seems it "lurch" forward. Rear tires can dig up the turf a bit because of this on soft ground. Even though I have to bar/turf tires (loaded).

I went back & forth on the BX and B7510 also. Ended up with the 7610 and and pretty happy minus a couple little things. Part of it is that I'm new to this CUT thing and have much to learn about these tractors & their implements.

1*I have both a BX2200 and a B2410 :SeymourBota
2*This might sound crazy but I find myself wanting a bigger piece of property so I can get a bigger tractor (and keep the BX too:BRIGUY
3* I remember someone posting that you should always mow in 2-wheel drive because the front tires would tear up the grass in 4-wheel drive. Could that be part of it:Rolando

1*Way to go one of each. Can't think of anything better except add a Bx 1500 to the mix. Can't have to many tractors Ya Know.
2*You don't have to get more land to add the bigger tractor now.
3*I mow in 4X4 with my BX23 with no problems. May be a different story with a bigger B tractor though.

I am in the cross hairs of trading my BX22 for a new B7610 (yes brand new) and need help pulling the trigger.

I have been very happy with the BX - it mows, lifts and digs whatever I throw at it however like most on this site I have been looking to go up one class and have read and re-read every thread on the BX and small "B" trade up. I am not looking to move up to a large B since my primary residence is 2.5 acres (1.5 is grass) and I like to be able to fit in smaller areas with little trouble however I do have another property with 24 acres in which I maintain a large garden.

My main interest in the 7610 is that the size appears to be perfect as well as I am not overly found of the new look of the new style B's (I prefer the older squared off style).

I would like to say I have one solid good reason of why I need to move up but I don't. Yes, better ground clearance, more lifting capacity etc but I think the main reason I am looking to do this is because the BX just doesnt seem to "scratch the tractor itch" (yes I stole that from KillerB's post). Is that enough to warrent a jump?

My primary tractor uses is hobby related - large garden, grass cutting (maybe), landscaping tasks, snow removal, hauling firewood etc.

Question for you who have moved onto a B from a BX;

I hear MMM's are a real PIA to put on and take off especially on a 7610. Any comments? I also heard the 7610 is not as nimble cutting the lawn as the BX but assume that is subjective.

Is the 7610 very tippy compared to the BX?

Would those that moved up to the 7610 from a BX say it was enough of a jump or after did you regret your decision and either went larger or maybe you should have stayed smaller?

Last but not least I am not sure anyone on this form had upgraded from a BX with a Backhoe to a B - but if you had did you opt for the BH or not on the upgrade and/or did you have any regrets? Although I rarely use mine its a great attatchment to have it at your disposal - just one of those real nice to haves when a hole has to be dug.

Any comments are truly welcome.

Thanks in adance,

~jim
