So is it somehow possible the red dirt seeped west into the well?

Sounds like What you have is a large diameter concrete crock surface supplied well, and yes I would say the low area is a collector that feeds your well.

There is little doubt in my mind if you had that well water tested it wouldn't pass and shouldn't be used as drinking water. In my area I've never seen a shallow well pass. That doesn't mean you can't use it, you just shouldn't use it for drinking water. If it were me and you have city water available, I'd hook up to it right away.

I don't think the bladder has busted in tank. I am thinking you are right Mr. Larry. That's what I came up with, just never thought that would happen. Yes the area filled in does have a spring.

Water testing is done where? Well has supplied 2 homes with water for approximately 50 years (would have to ask dad to really know).

Any ideas on how it could be fixed? Is it possible the seeping may stop soon?

I doubt that it will stop seeping on it's own. You may need to dig it back out and replace one or more of your tiles.
Do a search for "water testing". Shallow wells are easy to contaminate. I had one dug 10 years ago and the water was running right out of the ledge in 3 places. We filled the hole with 10 yards of stone, and although the water is only about 3feet deep it still wouldn't pass a water test. It's frustrating because it's a good vein but too far to get a drilling rig to... I pumped about 10000 gallons of water out of it in three days.

I was considering digging a new well, but the other areas I thing would be good are just as close to the area filled with red dirt. As of now the water appears clear as it used to. But I'm still not drinking any yet.

They make testing kits you can do at home. Our county health dept does it also.

Not much ... I would get a reverse osmosis system. It will remove metals . For your water I would get a filter to protect the RO system.

And get a water test for bacteria, nitrates, and depending on your area some ag chemicals. Water tests are NOT all the same. Contact your county health department for some advice.

Well, here's the bad news. I should have had the well tested years ago. I wouldn't suspect any ag chemicals in the water, but then I don't know much about natural springs. My father, grandfather, and I think g-grandfather all had Parkinson's Disease. Statistics show it is more common in people using well water due to the ag chemicals.
