Help!!! Snake!!!!

I stumbled on this thread last week and read all the way through, many times laughing so hard I was about to cry. Oddly enough over the weekend my dad and I had to replace my hotwater heater, inlcuding the plumbing through the floor to the crawl space. I grabbed my flashlight and a couple of pipe wrenches and started in under the house. I stopped 2 feet in and told dad not to bother coming in, ( there were a few expletives involved in this exchange) as there was a 4 1/2 foot snake skin lying just inside the entrance. I was happy to see it as I know it is keeping the mice out of my house, but my dad is terrified of snakes. I found two more skins on the sill next to where I was taking the pluming apart. I know it's just a big Bull Snake, but I was keeping a watchful eye out for him. I like snakes, just not snake surprises. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif All in all things went fine. Project completed, no snake encounters and my dad didn't soil his shorts. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So last week we're running the ATV's up to the shed and there is front of the door is the prettiest rattle snake I've ever seen. He was about the color of corn meal and had almost clear rattles. My son, being a good teenager, said "I want to hear him rattle" but we declined the opportunity. I considered shooting him because he would have made a really fine hatband but I wasn't sure if they were protected and I was inclined to just let him move on.
He was gone by morning and I didn't see him anywhere around the rest of the week. My neighbors expressed some concern that I had failed in my civic duty by not killing the thing. But I checked later and they are protected in PA and MD so even if I got him I couldn't keep him -- presumably no taxidermist would accept the job.
Later in the week saw a giant black snake while mowing, a small racer at the barn, a chicken hasseling a black snake in the road, and a black bear crossing the road in front of my ATV. My son said "geez, its like Noah's Ark out here."

Hey SailorBob - please refill the pond and this time put in some of those pretty orange and white speckled fish - they taste like a Creamsicle, my favorite.

I have refilled the pond ans so far no snake. I have a couple of fish in there just to see what happens. I think he may have found another hole....I guess we both won this time..We both got what we wanted....me - for hime to go away...him - seafood dinner and not to get killed..

You are right about this beautiful place, beats the heck out of the flatlands of north Texas I grew up in.

LOL!! OK time for new glasses. I could have sworn is said WA. That sound like something my dad would do. Oh NO! I guess I may have to give up on the bifocal contacts and go to glasses. I just hate wearing glasses. I knew that I had seen posts from someone from Whidbey Island.. At least I am not totally gone. I am having the big 50 birthday next week. I even received my invitation for AARP. I guess it's all down hill from here.
