Tim -

Are you saying here you would use the 3pt hitch to pick up logs? If so, why place the teeth so close together. This looks like a real nice stump plucker with the added lift capacity of the 3-pt hitch over a FEL in most machines. Just slide this back at ground level into the stump you want to remove and see if it does the trick.

But, I too would like to get hold of something like this from Long, Carver, or elsewhere to use as a stump plucker.

THE RP - STUMPER

Our friend RP in VA has developed his STUMPER.
Shown being used with an L 3410 hst.

He's using the three point frame and hitch and curved-like a hook-shanks on an old moldboard plow that had been discarded and left out to die a slow death to the weather and other elements.

It really works nicely because it is heavy duty,

has a long rear reach so it can go down deep

Has a long rear reach so you have lots of leverage power
when you are rolling it out and up by pulling with the tractor -- lifting with the hitch - or both.

These old plow frame are not hard to find .. cost very little .. and are MADE FOR THE TASK at hand.

Rancar,

The unit Tim shows is for pulling small trees out by the roots. Back into a sapling until it is wedged in the forks and pull it up roots and all. There is an attachment call the Brush Brute that hooks to the FEL to do the same thing. The problem is you have to have a pretty good size tractor and FEL for it to work well. It is very heavy duty and its weight does not leave much FEL capacity for pulling the trees with a compact tractor.

The issue with the brush brute on a compact smaller than the L class is that you don't really have the lifting force with the FEL after putting all that weight on. What the tree getter does is focus the lifting force in a smaller area for smaller trees and stumps. Plus the 3PH has much more lifting power than the FEL. You could do the job with a toothbar, but it would take much longer and disturb a much larger area. The beauty of the tree getter is that you can pull out the entire tree, not just the stump.

I know that several TBN'ers have had their own fabricated locally since the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=projects&Number=40261&page=9&view=expanded&sb=5&o=0&fpart=/>Pushing back the woods</A> thread.
Seems like there's a market for this. If Long or one of the biggies isn't interested I know we have a lot of fabricators and machinists on the forum, and producing something like this could be the start of a good business.
