Domestic canine tracks overlap >.50" with the front paw tracks, wild coyotes and wolves, as well as fox tracks will more often than not step directly in the front paw track.

We used to have wild coy dogs in our local area many years ago, some weighing up to 65 pounds and could drag down a full size deer under the right conditions. They also hunted in packs and more active at night. Their tracks overlap, same as domesticated dogs, but combined with looking, listening, and speaking to others in the area, it should not be hard to find the the source

Many times it will take more than one example to tell a domestic dog from a wild one, they can be difficult to tell at first, but study the signs, check scat, look for more than one track in the area, and spend some time out in the area at night and listen. The olny one I would not trust after dark in the lower 48 would be the coydog. I have been approached by one in the late 70's, and to this day I believe if there had not have been two of us together that night, I would have had a real time. He approached within 8', and snarling, I could see the whites of his teeth as he apprached at a fast trot, then he verred off at the last minute and he was gone. It was a cold december night and we had heard them off and on running deer at night within a half mile of where that took place., they pack up pretty tight, and their tracks often are overlapped with others in the pack.

Hey Moss, just wrap yourself in bacon and wonder into the woods, you'll know almost right away what is nearby.

David, if you decide to follow this advice, please set up a video camera. We wouldn't want to miss a show like that.

Could be I suppose, he looked in pretty good shape. The other one was limping, had a hind leg with what looked like an old injury. Maybe got shot and then healed from the wound. I think they may be both dead now because I haven't seen them in a long time.

Our coyotes were virtually gone 25 years ago, now the replacements are way bigger, and seem to be pack oriented and territorial. They seem to settle in groups of 3-4 adults then just absorb the pups into the pack, as it grows they expand their territory, unlike fox that live in pairs and evict the kitts when they reach maturity. Which is also much like the old coyotes did 75-100 years ago.
We've always had reports of cougars, the 4 legged kind, here. lately they have been increasing as well. I've been here since I was 21 in 1973, I've seen two cougars, one in Delmar, MD and one between Westover and Pokomoke. The first around 1979, the last around 1998. A friend of mine has a pair of cougars that pass through and stay for a few weeks twice a year, it appears they hunt along a lightline and stay over in an abondaned 500' chicken house for a few days/weeks when they come through. He has a large herd of deer on his property, they always nearly dissappear while the cats are visiting. Only time I know of cougers staying in pairs, I'm guessing they are siblings. He's taken pictures of them taking down a doe in his side yard in broad daylight, he has a big dog that use to go crazy when they were around, now it seems dog and cat tolerate one another, who knew? The latest big cat sightings were south of here about 50 miles on the Virginia Eastern Shore.
My point to all this rambling is that the animal population seems to be changing to include more predators, of course it makes perfect sense, the deer herds here have grown out of control, food attracts feeders. We've seen black bears here recently for the first time in around 100 years.

Well GOLL-LEE Bigfoot, I think I'll do that!

A one armed man who can't shoot his shotgun lefty wrapped in bacon, in the woods.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?????

It will be educational too!

Man (sniff, sniff...) I can just FEEL the LOVE pouring out for me...

[Yelling in the background] "Honey,I need 20 lbs of bacon and the cam-corder..."

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I said to the wife last night when I told her about your post, "I wish I could rig something up to LOOK like I was really doing this, because that would be a $10,000 video..." She laughed too.

But I think the whole Zombie Werewolves thing has her a bit skeert...

Happy Thanksgiving Bigfoot.
Be well!
David
