Oil & Fuel Help! Which viscosity in my 2320 first oil change??!

J-D 0W-40 is also highly recommended by J-D, although some of their dealers don't carry it, which seems strange

That is why I went with Mobil 1 5w-40 diesel engine oil. With winter temperatures approaching I wanted 0w-40 JD oil but they didn't carry it. So when I saw Auto Zone had a sale on Mobil 1, I went in that direction.

How exactly do I "drain water from fuel separator"??

Do you see water in the "clear" housing? In the motor home after 50,000 miles, I saw water only once, and that was after I was forced to use a smaller gas station that probably didn't sell a lot of diesel. On my tractor, I don't plan to drain the water unless I see some. To tell you the truth, I don't know how to do it on the tractor since I haven't done it yet. If you do drain yours, make sure you take pictures and let us all know how it went.

Your owner's manual should cover the procedure.

I'm no help , 'cause like D9 I don't drain it unless I see water in there, which hasn't happened yet.

I can't find any reference in the manual other than their suggestion to do it . . . but I take comfort that you and others don't find it to be an issue. Thanks.

I haven't had to do it myself yet, however, I assume that one would unscrew the plastic "wingnut" looking valve on the underside of the fuel separator to drain any water out of the system.

Unfortunately, on my JD 2320 it doesn't have a wing-nut on the bottom of the "glass" bowl. It looks like you need to remove the glass bowl, empty, clean, refill and reattach. On my Cummins ISB engine, both fuel filters have drain cocks on the bottom to allow just the water to flow out.

I used 0w30 in my 4010, which has a similar engine to what's in the 2320. I plan to use 5w30 in my 1025 at its 50 hour service, as I cannot get the 0w30 any more.

15w40 is too heavy for Canada, maybe for very southern US and Central America.

I have yet to see a 5w30 diesel oil. I see 10w30,10w40,and 15w40 conventional for diesels. Synthetic diesel rated oil is 5w40. I am not saying its not out there i just have never seen it. Just make sure its rated for diesel use.

I will bet Princess Auto can cross reference to your filters, NAPA down here can. I have used DELO 400LE for 50 years in both gas and diesel engines, both stationary and mobile large and small. It is made in 10-30 and 15-40. There in Toronto, in the winter especially you should be using the 10-30. My Kubota manual spells out to use the lower VIS at temps below 32 degrees F (0 C) for you guys. DELO was originally developed for heavy duty diesel engines and is rated as CI Plus. I even used it in the AZ and NV desert. I deal at NAPA as they give me their fleet discount which is from 30-50% less than the retail price, worth negotiating for. If PA won't I'll bet some will. I put a lot of hours on and change filters at every service so the price becomes significant. 50 hours a year I guess I would buy the Tractor branded stuff. I do 400+/YR.
