Help with a JD X475

I got the fuel gauge working by adjusting points on the float.

I am going to add an after market hour meter. I cannot justify paying over $300 to have an in dash hour meter.

I would think the wire is just messed up or something because that one is digital

What ever the problem is, it is inside the insrtument cluster.

My hour meter on my X475 is very faint. I can see the hours at 1600 but its very hard to read; even with my cheaters on. I am thinking about purchasing an after market meter too.

AndyMA, that is a great deal, do you know of one like that which will work on a John Deere 455, diesel ?

That was my first choice, until I read on their website that the batteries are not replaceable. The battery can last up to 5 years. The warranty is for one year. If the battery dies anytime after one year, the unit is junk & you lose the total hours.

I am planning on keeping the X475 awhile, so I bought an analog hour meter on Ebay.
If it dies I will still have the total hours to put on a new meter.

The hour meter / tach in the above posting is for spark ignition engines. It senses the spark plug wire to know when the engine is running. All of that said it will not work on a 455 diesel.

Look for an hour meter powered by 12 volt DC. Then it can be attached to the fuel solenoid circuit for approximating running hours or rigged to an oil pressure switch to measure actual running hours.
