build a big pond to harvest water so I can irrigate my avocado trees.need help with welding my membrane liner. Anyone have any experience with this? Most people around here use a leister comet wedge welder. Considering its over 11k to cover it and trying to go the diy route. Anyone have any experience how to weld or bond the liner together? Or were I could find a used plastic welder for sale?

Why do you want a plastic liner? There are better ways to seal the bottom of a pond like sodium bentonite, etc.

SB is the basis of kitty litter. Since you have chosen to not show where in the world you are, can't help with suppliers. Just google "sodium bentonite" and dependent on who you are in this galaxy, there may be a local supplier.

Pond Boss Magazine: Welcome like TBN but for mud/clay bottom ponds
www.koiphen.com like TBN but more for liner ponds. a good chance you will find some folks with plastic welding experience there. along with some commercial folks, that make custom liners.

==============
DIY and your getting yourself in trouble already, my advise, contact some local folks that dig / make ponds for a living. that way they can come out take soil tests if need be, and tell ya what ya need to do and how to do it. they may charge for a fee up front. and let you DIY everything else. or a mix of everything pending on who you talk to and get.

contact your local "hatcheries" in your given state/country, they should be able to provide you with additional info as well.

some liners are not meant to be welded and if they are, need a very expensive setup.

if you can go with mud/clay style pond. soil samples would be highly suggested so you can determined how much if anything needs to be added to the soil. along with how stuff is mixed or placed on or within the soil. may also determined amount of additives.

I live out in mexico and I already made the hole just trying to save on the lining, which is what everyone uses out here. I have built three already but im thinking its time for me to buy a machine or find a cheaper alternative. They charge about $5buckss us a square meter down here. Its going to cost me close to 12k to have it covered. Considering I can get the hdpe lining for ruffly 3-4k thinking Ican cut and weld it myself. Didn't seem too hard when the company built my other ones. They used a lesiter comet and it was self propelled. Just wanted to see if their was a cheaper alternative or a cheaper machine.
