Help with chosing the right one

Its hard to criticize the BX series Kubotas. They are nice and light, so they are great on the lawn. The light weight will also be an asset on the beach. My sales manager used to own a company that made dune buggies, he and I got into a discussion a while back about tractors on the sand and he convinced me that light weight with turf tires is the right answer for dealing with sand. There was actually a thread last fall where a guy was buying a tractor for use on sand and when it all boild down, he got a light tractor with high (relative) horsepower and big fat turf tires. Now all that said, I think the JD 2210 is also going to be in the same weight category as the BX series Kubota.

It sounds like the JD is your choice but you have nagging questions about the Kubota because it has a great reputation. I'd suggest that you won't go wrong with either machine and you'd be happy with either. That said, eliminate the Massey because of the little voice in your head that makes you worry. Then take a test drive on both the JD and the Kubota and let your gut tell you which would be better for you.

Bob,

Sounds like great advice. I think you could tell I was leaning towards ther JD. I will have to try them out to decide which one I like better. I don't think I can go wrong with either as you have stated. The MF dealership is on the way also so I will give that one, one last look too.

I have seen the Deere in person so I will have to make a trip to see the Kubota to make my final decision. I am glad to hear the quality of all of them has really not come out as an issue. With a thread like this it is typical to see the don't buy this or that posts come out.

Thanks to all for the great input and I will keep reading if there is any further input and post which tractor I end up with.

Good! Sounds like you did fine with selling yours, and now you don't have a tractor, a very BAD situation!! :grin

I was just a little concerned that you were trading up over and over and was trying to svae you a step.

But since you have big equipment available, small is a good way:

The 2210 is ~1400lbs and can come with 12" width tires

the 4110/4115 are ~1500Lbs and can come with 12.5" width tires.

Actually for beach work, I bet duals would be nice!!!.

Duals huh?

I like the sounds of that, think of how sweet that would look and the floatation would be unbelievable. I would have to be carefull not to get to close to the lake though I would start to float away.....or I could just put an outboard motor on it....

I will give the next size up another quick look while I am at the dealer. No harm in looking.

Any comments on the pricing? Good/Bad?

Thanks

What backhoe is quoted with the Deere (I guess its a Woods...) Deere doesn't offer one for the 2210. (and that might be a good reason to look at the 4010/4115...)

I really am not up on the pricing on these...

Just an update.

I decided on the Kubota. The reason. I looked closely at both and was still torn between them then my tractor sale fell through and the Kubota dealer gave me a much better trade in ($9,200) than Deere dealer could (they would only give me $ 6,500) Kind of interesting that the Kubota dealer had more faith in my Deere trade in then the Deere dealer did.

All things being equal the two machines did not seem to warrant an almost $3,000 difference in price. They are also going to include any attachments at the time of sale at dealer cost.

My only concern with the Kubota is the removal installation of the FEL/BH. I have been reading the Kubota forum and it seems many have problems with this. My deere was a piece of cake and I never had an issue. Especially with the bucket. Two minutes on and off.

Thank you all for the input and advice it was much appreciated.

She arrives either today or tomorrow.

I suggest you buy a used 425 with a 54" deck and a bagger for mowing and a JD 4415 or even the 3320 for earth moving.

I just went through this decision process. I was going to sell my 425 and try to find an "all in one" machine. I finally realized that that wouldn't work for my needs. For my property a 60", which is the smallest MMM you can install on a 4115, is a little too big, particularly with a bagger or the Hydraulic Dump Power Pak.

I'm keeping my 425 and plan on installing the Hydraulic Dump Power Pak to replace my Powerflow 2 bagger if I can stand to write a check for close to $6k for it.

I have a 3320 with a FEL on order. I'll run it for 30-60 days. If its not too big, I'm going to add a 448 backhoe to it. If it is too big, I'll sell it and buy the 4115 with a FEL and backhoe.

Hope this helps....

My situation is such that two machines is not possible (storage issue) and because I am going to be working on a sandy beach light weight is the order of the day.
