Help with fustration first time using b2620

Ok folks. Two issues today first time mowing. Hopefully this is something I'm doing wrong and maybe you guys can give me a hint. Brand new B2620 with 60"MMM and FEL. Loader is off for mowing today. No problems with that.

1. Sometimes tractor will not start. Turns over fine... Spits a little diesel smoke and dies. I try six or seven times and it eventually fires. Let glo plug heat for about 5 sec each time.

2. Mower deck keeps dropping on it's own. Set it at 3 and one dot... Mowing along and bouncing around a bit... My yard is not that rough... Deck dial drops to about 2 1/2.


Any ideas? Can't even finish mowing right now due to frustration.

First, read the manual thoroughly!! I don't think you're doing anything wrong...but make sure you follow the starting procedure in the manual.

Second, assuming you aren't doing something wrong (and I don't think you are), contact your dealer. Your Kubota should not be having any issues this early in it's life.

1. These tractors are very cold blooded, even when it is 90* out mine needs a few seconds of preheat to start smoothly. Once it's been run for a while it starts fine without preheat. Try preheating for 10sec, set the throttle just above idle, then crank and it should start right up. In real cold weather I'll preheat mine for 15-20sec sometimes. I think it's just the nature of an indirect-injection motor. Also once it gets broken-in a little it should start better.

2. I'm not familiar with the setup on the B2620, the only MMM setup I've used is on a B7610 which has a ground contact deck. I would think that something is out of adjustment in the height mechanism. It shouldn't change the setting by itself no matter what. Probably something simple like not enough tension on a detent or something, but I'd have the dealer look at that. It's under warranty, and it was also their obligation to set it up right before delivery.

Thanks Roy... read it cover to cover at least three times this week. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong either. This isn't rocket science. Frustrating thing is that it is now Saturday afternoon and dealer will not be avialable till Monday morning and I've got two acres to mow.

I've had two 'Botas. My D722 required a little longer glow time, even in 30 or 40 degree weather. Try that.

My 1005 is not fussy nearly as much. Still needs a few seconds, but not half what they other did. You'll find what suits that engine, with some experimentation.

Also, crack you throttle, before beginning to 1/4 or 1/3 or even 1/2. This often helps as well. I suspect, I hope, you'll find the right formula and it'll roar to life the virtual instant you crank 'er over. Mine do.

1. Not sure about the starting...I have a B2320 and a couple seconds of glow plugs and it always starts. We're neighbors so it's not weather.

2. On the MMM...common issue with them. I had the same problem after a while. If you look underneath, the knob has round notches in it and the MMM will have a lever that will rest on the round notch. The notches seem to fill up with paint and they do not hold the mower well. You need to get a large chain saw file and grind them out a little. It doesn't hurt to use a dremel on the MMM piece to make it fit better in the notches either. I'd send you some pics but I have to get ready to head out for a while.

Nobody has accicentally put some gas in the fuel tank have they? We don't have a mower on our Kubota so can't help you there.

Nope... no gas in the tank.

Just pure Sunoco diesel....

Since it started raining... again... I pulled the B2620 into the garage and started tinkering. I started the tractor about 20 times in the garage and it fired right up... go figure. I hope there is not some safety switch that is not right or going bad. We'll keep an eye on that.

The deck is proving to be more of a problem.

I took the deck off to check the dial height operation from underneath. The dial seems very loose to me.... wobbles around a lot up top. I also noticed that if I lower the deck quickly it can be enough to knock the dial down a couple of notches. I loosened up the spring clip and tried to snug it up by moving it in closer to the notched dial underneath. Still seems very wobbly.

I hope this is not a common occurance. I cannot even do one pass across my yard without the deck falling about 2 inches.

Thanks fish... I was just reading those threads and if I would've taken the time to do a proper search instead of being impatient I would've probably found them. I appreciate the links!

Yeah... this is definitely my problem. Some of these threads date back to 2008. I just had my tractor delivered on Monday and the same poor design still exists.

I can't tell you how disappointing this is to me! I will now have to contact the dealer to have them make the mods they should've made before I took delivery. When you pay this much for a machine... this seems unacceptable to me.
