I have been looking for a bolt on toothbar for my tc40 with six foot bucket. I know this has been disscused before but I can't find the thread. I was at the farm show this past weekend in Louisville (preaty neat I have never been) I looked for a company that makes one. the only ones I could find where for skid buckets and loader company own buckets. I am just trying to get a price of one so I can see if it worth buying or using the guy who welds for me make one. I know I can get the individual teeth for around $20bucks. I have not talked to him to see what he might charge to make one. who makes these things and what prices have people paid

I got mine from KC Canary Equipment through Mark Bruckner and am very pleased with not only the toothbar but the dealer and salesman as well.

The toothbar was drop shipped to me direct from the manufacturer in Illinois so I avoided the 'double freight' deal. Just tell him it's an 'internet sale' and you can avoid the sales tax, too.

KC Canary is an advertiser here on TBN and Mark is a great guy who'll take real good care of you. You can reach him at 800-920-7097. Tell him I said "Hi." /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The name of the manufacturer for the two toothbars I have is FFC (Farmer's Factory Company) in Lee, Illinois. You may want to peruse their website at www.ffcattachments.com. The EXTRA heavy-duty bolt on toothbar (shown in the attachment) was $401 for a 6' HD JD bucket. Understand though this was special made to accommodate the bolt on cutting edge that I also have on my bucket. They sell other standard HD toothbars for a welded on cutting edge for $316. These are prices provided by my dealer.

If you can't buy from your dealer or direct through the company, you may want to contact my dealer who is KC-Canary, Fultonville, NY. Talk to Mark Brucker at 518-853-3405 and he can order for you and have it shipped to you or your dealer for install. You would have to provide exact inside measurements of your bucket.

Why is a toothbar so useful? What can be done with a toothbar that a loader can't do without one?

I know this is simplistic, but the bare loader VS toothbar comparison reminds me of a comparison between an old guy with no teeth [if this animal exists anymore] and me with my full set...both eating an ear of corn!

Yes, I am serious...I love my tooth bar...really does make a difference!

It is much easier on your fel with the tooth bar. Difference like sinking a pitchfork into the ground and sinking a spade into the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A toothbar changes your front end loader into something with which you can actually 'dig' instead of just 'load' loose material. The analogy I always use is similar to the spade/pitchfork comparison.

If you really want to see what a difference a toothbar can make grab a fork and spoon and try to push each of them into a hard packed ball of soil and notice the difference in effort required.

<font color="blue">"...What can be done with a toothbar that a loader can't do without one?..."</font>

I recall some things JMIII said about toothbars in previous threads that still stick in my mind....

One is...."...with the toothbar it's like the loader bucket is on steroids." /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Another...."...a toothbar is to a bucket/loader as TNT is to a boxblade." /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Analogies are useful things but as in anything only you can determine what applications you will use your tractor's FEL for and whether it's worth the extra $200+ outlay for a toothbar.

Hi,

<font color="blue"> "...What can be done with a toothbar that a loader can't do without one?..." </font>

Couple specifics:

The teeth will break up the hard surface if you want to skim some off...expecially shale and hard clay.

The toothbar I have slips over the bottom edge of the bucket and makes it MUCH stronger and less likely to bend when pushing against something like a small tree or tree stump.

The teeth will catch on roots and make it easier to dig out bushes and stuff like that.

You can hang a cable or chain from one of the teeth in a pinch and use the bucket to lift something or to pull out something like old tee posts [not sure if this is wise to do...but you can]. Chain hook on bucket would be preferable though.

I have had good luck spreading stone on my parking area, by first slowly dumping it from my bucket as I back up, then raking it with the teeth to even it out, then smoothing it with the back of the bucket, with the teeth curled upwards slightly.

If you are moving brush piles the teeth help the brush to stick to the bucket when you push the pile...

Makes your machine look like a real "man" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif This is most important! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm sure there are more...

Got my toothbar from Carver. Guess you can also buy the individual teeth, mounting bar and do the welding yourself. Now I like welding but the cost savings would have been so slight by the time you factored in my time and rod cost I probably would have been "working" for about $3 per hour, something I try not to do!!! Bar is strong, well made, and well worth the money for all the reasons mentioned in previous posts.

Here's some info I posted a while back after making the "homebrew" toothbar in the attached picture. The tooth bases mount on a piece of flat stock. I welded two pieces of flat stock together into a sharp V-shape that slips over the bucket's cutting edge. :

The teeth on mine are almost parallel with the bottom of the bucket. They are slightly lower than the cutting edge. The sketch in my previous post is fairly close to how it looks. Works fine. The only operations I've had better luck without the bar is scooping up crushed stone. It works best for me to remove the bar so the factory cutting edge slips under the edge of the pile.

Stopped at Binkley & Hurst this AM and got the following info:

Weld-on bases for teeth = 12L6DW-8-2A-H..........$9.95/ea
Replaceable teeth for above = T41166................$3.08/ea
Roll Pin = 38-32028...........................................$0.79/ea

The bases listed above are already drilled for the roll pins, but the larger ones I saw were not. The roll pins on mine fit very tight. You'd best assemble the base/tooth/pin before welding. You really need to smack the beejiminy out of them to get the roll pin in. As another poster noted, it would be a job to work between the teeth with a hammer. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Any? just ask...............chim

I use mine to haul around logs. It gives your bucket the added Leverage.
