Help with top link adjustment for rotary cutter.

This can work, but I'll go a step further. Be careful doing this, making sure that the PTO shaft is not compromised and that you don't put it so far over that the arms hit the tires.
Don't allow any sway in the arms when doing it this way, and go slowly.

I am using my rotary like a RFM now. After I beat back the grasses from the house frontage I ended up adjusting the cut for a level ride. Using the offset allows me to get close to the fences, still need to watch the FEL. My end result is a really nice cut with a nice stripe pattern to it. Few have commented what I am using to cut with, they are always surprised by my answer.

There is so much confusion thrown about when it comes to adjusting the rotary cutter for mowing, I'm surprised some of the methods work satisfactorily or whether the confusion is in the writing.

Your explanation and pics show how to use a rotary cutter. I use the chains on the cutter itself, and then don't have to change out the top link that stays with my iMatch. My chains replace the steel brace straps that are between the top link connection and the rear of the deck.

So, are you talking about changing the braces that are running from the lift support brace to the rear of the cutter at a 45 degree angle with chain? I have never thought of that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif If I did that I could use my normal top link. I may have to check that out and give it a tray. What about side to side stability? that could be a problem.

I know it has been discussed before, but for us non-Imatch users, would you give us the pros and cons of replacing the metal straps with chains?

Could this setup potentially create more stress on the PTO shaft of the tractor?
