Can't create more (or any) stress on the PTO shaft or gear boxes (given that the PTO shaft is the correct length).

The rear chains will work just as well with the conventional 3pt hookup, and doesn't need the iMatch to work. I regularly bent the two steel straps even with the short flexible link, before iMatch and after. Now with the chains on the deck, no problems or deck stress that I can detect. Very stable. The length of the chains are such to give the deck flexibility, yet tight enough to pick up the rear of the deck for travel without allowing the PTO shaft to contact the leading edge of the deck. That is very hard on shaft and gear box, and PTO stub.

Thanks Beenthere - I just want to make sure I understand all the potential ramifications of a modification like this before I jump in head first into shallow water.

The pic you posted clearly shows one of the real advantages of using the chains over metal straps. Easy for even me to understand /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One last question and I'm not trying to be a SA: Why didn't your unit come with chains in the first place, if the chains offer an advantage over straps?

I am not sure why but suspect when new they look better with the straight steel straps, and probably the straps are a bit cheaper. I've never seen a rotary cutter with chains in place of the straps. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I don't know if other finish mowers come with lift chains but my 5ft kk mower did come w/ a chain. I realize this is a bit different since it sets on 4 wheels when in action. But the rear is picked up by a chain.
