Just a opinion but I would start by taking the head to a Machine Shop and have it checked out. With the Cyl. walls in the condition they are in would make me tend to believe someone may have been through the bottom end also. My bet it's the Head and that should be easy to have Specs checked.

I tend to agree with you, I will make a trip to the machine shop. But based on what I'm seeing the past owners had not a clue as to what they were doing and caused most of the current damage due to lack of experience . I'm going to go ahead and pull down the the lower end and see what else has been half A'ed on her. I don't want to get her back together and then have to attempt pushing a new piston and rings in from the bottom. It can be done but its no fun what so ever. Plus I bought her to resell and I don't want someone else having these problems to deal with. unless they are a collector and have dealt with Yanmar products in the past I think they would be lost . I have a kubota L2201 love it but had a lot of these type of issues to resolve before she was 100 % , I'd driver her across country with out fear.

In your video the valve that has been hitting the head does not look to be seated. Have you got something holding it open or am I just not seeing it correctly?

Actually it is carbon build up that was holding it open I have clean them and it is closing all the way now. I am a bit worried I might find some lower end issues that piston has a bit of play in it when brought to top dead center and then pushed down by hand drops about a 1/8 inch , hoping its not a crank and just a rod or rod cap will know more in a few days and report back.

Thanks

I agree with you Winston. That 1 valve looks like it isn't seated ( stuck open a it) It could also be bent from hitting the head causing it not to fully seat. If you know the spec for a standard head, you should be able to have the head checked as to how much material was removed. You could also ask the previous owner what machine shop he used and go see / phone them. You may need a thicker gasket or, a new head

The Injectors and Valve hitting the pistons your going to have to get it checked. But from the sounds of the piston moving 1/8 of an inch. Sounds like thats going to be a big Problem. No wonder Steve told you of this site. Ghetto Rig!!

1/8" play in the piston!!!! You may not have any bearing left under that cap/rod!!!

It sure ain't good. I doubt you will find a short block. Most folks have to just over haul when faced with your situation. I see Hoye has a new crankshaft for about $500. Probably get it welded and turned cheaper. Could be it could be turned for .030" oversize bearings if they are available. Only micrometers can determine that. Amazing that thing would still crank and run!
