I was going through the messages and read the one about the chains connecting the top links to a bushhog versus a some sort of swivel kind. Someone posted a like to a KK 4' model just like mine, hmmm looks different. Since I bought the tractor new I review some pictures I had (tractor up at the weekend place). I knew the chain kind because my Woods FM has them. Looked at the brush hog and the previous owner had moved the swivel link down to the bottom hole, pointed it toward the front, and welded it. I ground away the welds and now it swivels so I think it works like it's supposed to. I haven't got a change to try it yet.

It would be interesting to know why the previous owner welded it solid. I'm trying to imagine how it could help, but I can't.

I recently purchased a brand new KK 5' rotary cutter. It has a similar design, but there is a piece welded on that limits the forward travel of the upright part so that it can't rotate forward of vertical. This allows the back of the cutter to lift up, but doesn't allow the back to drop down. It seems to work well, but I have a couple of areas where I'd like to back into and have the back off the cutter drop down to follow the slope. Perhaps I can back into these areas from the downhill side and let the back of the come up following the slope. I haven't tried this but it should work and should be safer keeping the weight on the uphill side.

No idea. He used this tractor in a landscape business. Mowing was all this tractor did, mostly a 20-acre park with the Woods. Some land clearing with this I guess. Aside from being not real pretty (I painted the TSC brand mower black), the mower didn't look to be heavyly used. Just that it was sitting outside it's whole life.

Mostly what I mow is flat but doing some deer hunting clearing I run across some ditches and noticed the tractor high centering some because of this. Thought it was sort of normal. Anxious to see how it works like this.

I have a NH Rotary Cutter and my bracket swivels. My old KK did not have a swivel and worked fine. But I think the NH swivel type is better.

Rob, I use a section of chain looped around the bottom of my swivel and the bolt below it to limit the swivel's forward travel. When the back of the cutter drops down, the swivel comes out straight like it was when it was welded. When the back wheel comes up, there is nothing to guarantee the swivel will go up and over the top. Sometimes it jams downward and then stays in that position. If you limit how far forward the swivel can rotate or you have relatively smooth ground, it won't be a problem. I suspect that's why the previous owner welded the swivel in place. He didn't want it jamming as I described. I think you'll find the limiting chain on it to be the best solution. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I missed seeing any use of a chain. Is it in place of the top link? If so, I think the mod will work for Rob.

If no chain, I think the U-shaped swivel piece should be pinned at the lower holes (not the upper as shown) and swing under, not over. Best of all worlds if a chain isn't used, IMO. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But we each look at things a bit different, and 'like' things differently. Good luck to Rob deer hunting.

I wonder if the previous owner had a "Quick Tach" hitch on his 3 ph and he welded the swivel so it was easy to attach!

Beenthere, I didn't notice your question until now, and I realize that my verbal description of how I rig the float adapter on my King Kutter wasn't clear. I'm attaching a partial diagram of the area showing how I route my chain around the U-shaped float adapter to limit it's travel. This works very well for me and keeps the adapter from going over-center and staying in the downward pointing position.

Cool drawing, but I think i have it all figured out now. Keep in mine some of this may have been mentioned but I'm going to spell it out anyway.

I downloaded and reviewed both the KK and Bushhog users manual and parts diagrams...it of course I read them correctly. The bush hog flex link goes under the Y. They mention only using a top link pin that will allow for this movement. The KK style (like mine) has a key welded on it (mine must be different or is missing) to prevent the U bracket from going forward. Looking at my KK picture link I think I can see it on the front, near the bottom of where the U bracket would be(this was mentioned by someone else). This would also be why the link in the picture is standing straight up. So on the KK, this would meanit would only allow the RC to go up in the back, and not down. In other words if you are going through a ditch, the cutter deck would be allow to go up to keep the tractors rear wheels on the ground, but when climbing out of the ditch, the cutter would hit the stop and never go below parrellel to the ground. The BH works about the same but the top link is pulling the U bracket toward the top link so the cutter deck could never go below parrellel, but would allow the cutter deck to go up.. Make sense? I guess to ways to do the same thing. My guess is both keep the cutter deck from going below parrellel because when climping out of a ditch the cutter would want to ride on the ground.

to bad I don't have a TSC close by to have a look.
