... guess we wouldn't get along. Long tube headers on my truck with welded thrush mufflers, and 3 straight pipe bikes. 6" straight pipe stack on my ford 7000, 5" straight pipe on my 7.3l, FMF on my 440ex. Mever had a neighbor complain until I finally put the mufflers on my truck, (was running open headers) She got mad because I didn't wake her up any more when I drove by at 530am every morning. No noise ordinance where I live 20 minutes from town, had a short time neighbor call the sheriff on a group of friends and I for riding our quads on my land and being too loud. Sheriff did nothing since we were in the back of our 80 acre plot and neighbor moved back to town off his 5 acre farm.

I've always thought noise was a lot like my freedom to swing my fist. I can swing it anywhere I want until it comes to somebody else's nose. Same with sound and ears. I love the sound of a well tuned V8 as much as the next guy, but there are plenty of people that don't appreciate hearing it at 5:30AM. Most of us moved out into the stix to get away from all the city racket, and when a gaggle of straight piped V-twins comes roaring up the canyon, shakin' the windows in all the neighbor's houses, lots of people's blood pressure goes through the roof and it inspires a lot of hatred for anybody on a motorcycle, not just the loud ones. Excessive noise, no matter what the cause, is nothing less than bad behavior by an inconsiderate, self centered, lhey-look-at-me showoff, and as far as most people are concerned, the world would be a better place without 'em.:2cents:

I guess I look at it a little differently, I live out there for the freedom to do such things. If I wanted quiet all the time, I'd live in a quiet neighborhood 20 feet from my neighbor. Guess I figure, if my neighbor can raise hogs, I can raise decibels.

Difference is the guy raising the hogs is making a living and feeding his family............on the other hand your raised decibels is just so you can feel loud. It otherwise serves no other purpose except maybe purposely pizzing off your neighbors......... not very thoughtful or courteous I would say.....and I will add an example of a "unhelpful neighbor" to get us back on thread track.

I've heard Harley riders claim that their bikes aren't actually louder (in decibels) but the unbalanced twin configuration exhaust is just more penetrating. However, I've also seen data that shows the "sport" models of HD as right at the EPA limits whereas other bikes are 10 to 20 decibels less. I think it's safe to say any HD with aftermarket pipes is technically illegal.

I enjoy a nice sounding engine, but that is what they make race tracks for
Something I found much more annoying though is a diesel that has excessive exhaust sound and also dumping tons of black smoke.........

Sorry to get off track again, but what if you moved to within earshot of a race track? Or moved to within earshot of somewhere that was known for loud noise before you moved there? We have had a race track, a mud pit (organized events and charity events held there) a pulling track (sanctioned MSTPA pulls were held there, and are geting ready to have another few tracks in one shut down that have been around for ever, but new neighbors moved in and are petitioning for them to be shut down.

This seems to be a classic example of apples to beef jerky.......
