Sorry to get off track again, but what if you moved to within earshot of a race track? Or moved to within earshot of somewhere that was known for loud noise before you moved there? We have had a race track, a mud pit (organized events and charity events held there) a pulling track (sanctioned MSTPA pulls were held there, and are geting ready to have another few tracks in one shut down that have been around for ever, but new neighbors moved in and are petitioning for them to be shut down.
Depends on the state. Many states have legislation to prevent NIMBYs from appealing long-existing activities such as gun ranges and race tracks. Even the People's Republic of Massachusetts prevents people who have moved into the neighborhood of a gun range from complaint.

I get what you are saying but how often is there a real need for it? As an example, we have a small car circle track in my town. I remember 10 years ago you could hear the races on the weekend from my house a couple miles away as the crow flies. The last couple years I've wondered if the place was closed but it looked kept up. A couple months ago I was driving by and there were cars racing on it, funny thing was you couldn't hear them unless nearby. Obviously they now all have to run mufflers which to me is just common sense and does not detract from the races IMO. I've had dirt bikes in the past, I prefer the quiet spark arrestor over any loud one, no one needs to hear me. Something like an outside gun range is a bit tougher to muffle but in my area those are off the beaten path unlike the open piped bike that the driver hammers on the throttle going up the road in front of my house.

There's a famous South Park episode that explains how most people think.

That's hilarious. My wife and I always laugh; "there goes another dentist/CPA with a mid-life crisis!"

Ten years ago I could hear my microwave buzzers but now I can't. They must have put mufflers on them.:D:D

George Bush Int'l was built North of Houston, way out in the country, and opened in 1969. People started building homes in the area a few years later then wanted to ***** about the noise.

Houston Astrodome was built south of Houston, way out in the country, and opened in 1965. People started building homes in the area a few years later then wanted to ***** about the traffic.

Oh well.

The HD sales manual about how to conduct a test ride got put on the WWW a few years ago. First load up the prospective owner with HD gear, then take then for a stop someplace where people will walk by and notice him and the bike.

Sounds about right. The funny part to me is it's the complete opposite of what the image is supposed to be.

There's an interstate about a mile or 2 from our property. We can hear it but since we are building our retirement place there my wife often tells people "Soon we won't be able to hear it". This is especially true for me.
