Welp, another waste of the tax payer's money!
The neighbor lady's court appointed lawyer told the judge. Her client has somewhat been making consistent payments of around $50.00 a month. And her only income is Social Security. The lawyer asked the judge for another year to pay in full!
We are coming up on 4-years, and all the neighbor lady has paid is only $1,103.06. Out of $3,206.66.:mad:
It is all I can do, not to stand up and ask the judge if this is the same attitude they have with all the drug dealers in this county!

Next court date, May 25, 2018!

You know, it's gotta just kill the old bag to have to write out that check every month, address the envelope, seal it, put a stamp on it, and mail it. All the time spent doing this, she's probably seething with anger at you and the situation she put herself into. And she gets to do it every month until the judgement is paid. That and the money may not be much of a punishment, but that's all there is, and it does serve as a monthly reminder not to screw around with her neighbor. So maybe the longer the payments last, the longer she'll behave herself. Hopefully that's long enough for her to shuffle her miserable self off her mortal coil...

No sure about your location but in Oregon it is very easy to garnish wages or bank accounts if you have a written judgement. Had to go that route with a former renter and I came out ok.

Did any one mention to the lawyer that $50/ month for 4 years would have been $2,400?

Yeah, that's a lot closer to $23/month than $50. And even at that $50 rate, it will take another 42 months to pay in full, not 12.

You clearly have much greater patience than I, SA.

She didn't make a payment until February 4th 2015. And that was $25.00.
What I don't get, her pretrial diversion agreement with the courts. Was to have us paid in full within 180-days. I bet if they put her in jail, she would find the money!

Had a chance to watch our county court in action. Wasn't impressed. Guy got caught running drugs in his tractor trailer. Lost his cdl. No jail time. Get some counseling for your addiction :confused2:

Guy after him was in for DWI 11th offense and DLS 20th offense. Got 4 weekends in jail, and got to keep his hardship license since he needed to keep his job :banghead: :banghead:

This must have taken place in Canada.

Hey, its the same in Canada.
Low life is on welfare owes a bundle in back rent but eviction is near impossible.
Go to court and at last hour the delinquent pays, like $50.00 and lawyer says that he/she is making a conscientious effort.
Then low life skips another 3 months and the cycle starts all over again.
Meanwhile the landlord pays taxes and utilities and to add insult to injury the rental board stipulates what tour annual increase can be.
Then we have the hydro that will cut power so the tenant moves out but the problem is the landlord has to pay the outstanding tenant electricity bill and also make a $500 deposit to guarantee future payments.
Landlord screwed again.
Mind you this is the case in low income buildings and often those landlords are typical 'slum landlords'.

At the high end rentals come a whole other problem.
Scumbag pays first and last month, subdivides and rents out as a B and B but never makes another payment.
Generally the courts ignore saying it is a commercial argument and therefore a civil matter. (like FO, don't bother us.)

I was a landlord over some 12 years.
Waterfront seasonal chalets.
Best of the best.
No rental board, generally affluent clients with very minimal hassles.
Always demanded caution deposit and total rent up front.
In fact I sold both properties to the last tenants and to this date we are best of friends and they both are valuable members of our cottage community and contribute to our overall well being.
OK, have been to court a few times as witness and man o man I cannot comprehend some of those judges.
