We were to visit some friends Friday night for a few drinks and maybe some card playing...but I got a message on the answering machine that he may not be able to get together due to 20 ton of 2b stone sitting in his driveway. Due to overhead wires the delivery truck could not tailgate/spread the stone and a call to the rental place would get a skidsteer delivered tohis ouse but very late in the day. On top of that they wanted $80 for the skidsteer, $20 for the trailer to bring it to his house and a wopping $100 delivery/pickuip charge(he's only 8 miles from the rental place)

I called my buddy back and said cancel the skidsteer and I'll pick up a rental trailer and bring the PT over...his response was will that "little" tractor be able to handle it?? Of course I said not to worry about it and I'll be over soon. Well, the rental place only had a large trailer available and only had chains for tie downs....I saw some aluminum truck ramps outside and inquired on the max. capacity of them...sticker said 600 lbs. each.I took them home, used a pair of jack stands for support at the midway point and onto the truck went the PT.

When I arrived at his place he had his garden tractor out trying to push some stone around. Unloaded the PT and he got his first few minutes of seat time on the "little" tractor. After a few minutes he decided we would be there until dark if he kept up this pace so the seasoned PT operator took over for him. After about 40 minutes the stone was spread and it was fast approaching beer o'clock! His wife was so happy with the $$ savings that she had us over for supper that night.....the ramps cost $6.00 to rent and now they are on my short list for purchase!

Thats what I love about the PT, no one gives it credit until they see it in action.
Did you use your bucket to level?

YOU DID A NICE JOB ON THE DRIVE. MY ONLY QUESTION IS WHERE ARE THE OVERHEAD WIRES OR TREE LIMBS THAT PREVENTED THE TRUCK FROM SPREADING THE GRAVEL? LOOKING AT THE PICTURE, I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING, AND I DON'T SEE A POLE NEAR THE DRIVE FOR THE WIRES? LOOKS LIKE A STRAIGHT SHOT TO ME, BUT I AM SURE I AM MISSING THE BIG PICTURE.

Nice job! :)

I bought the ramps from PT. They were only $100.00 and well worth it before I owned a trailer. I didn't trust my tailgate on the old pickup truck, so I removed it. The PT still fit in the full size bed with room to spare. The bucket just rested on the rear bumper.

I would suggest that anyone that has a full size pickup and doesn't have or want a trailer to get these ramps. The very first time you use them makes you wonder what you ever did without them and the PT. :D

The wires are at the top of his drive...I guess I didn't get them in the pic. Once loaded onto the truck I put the tailgate back on for added safety. I used the bucket to smooth out the stone but I must admit I could have done a better job. I think he actually got too much stone though, the drive is not very long or wide and we spread around 20 ton the best we could...he got a price too good to pass up on the stone!

Forgot to mention he is thinking about a red PT for some ground maintenance at the hospital where he works. Are any of the attachments for the red machines compatable with the 422?

It depends what you mean by compatible! The red machines have a higher pump output so the motors of the 425 would not be compatible. As for buckets etc with no PTO or hydraulic motor requirement, it is possible to exchange the attachment plate and use these items on a red machine.

Example - when I bought my 1430 I wanted a 48 inch brush cutter and with a little coaxing I got PT to put the 1430 motor and attachment plate to the 48 inch brush cutter sold with the 425. It works fine for me as I wanted the narrower width of the 425 cutter. I realize it is 6 inches narrower than my 1430's width but that is what I wanted.
