Helping Neighbors is Awsome!

My neighbor and I take turns plowing the lower part of the private ROW. It's too hard trying to remove snow while going up the steeper parts so I do that part myself. A few months ago we got a real good dumping, 2 feet plus. With the snow blower I'll wait until the snow has finished falling unless I need to go somewhere.

About midnight it stopped so I set out down the 1/2 mile road. Near my neighbors house I started smelling a burnt smell. I came around the corner and saw his old MF parked on the side of the road. Although it looked like he cleared the road I continued down anyway since I like to keep the road nice and wide.

I got down near the bottom I could see where he had started clearing the driveway of another neighbor, they are both in their 80s. It must have been where his tractor had issues. I could see a shovel and the start of a short path. On the way back up the hill I made a few quick passes with the blower and got all but the last foot near the cars cleared. Because it was so late and the Kubota is so quiet I doubt they even knew I was there.

The next morning the tractor was gone and it returned a few days later. I'm not sure if either neighbor knows as I haven't had a chance to talk to them. But I know and since neither has a lot of money I would rather avoid the refusing the offer to say thanks. I figure I got to be Santa for a few minutes. But more importantly I also know both of them would of done the same for me.

Next door neighbor (20 years my senior and I really don't know them) has had a dump truck load of recycled asphalt sitting beside his gravel driveway for 3 months compacting on its own weight. They have a relative that owns a much larger Deere, so I never thought to offer my assistance. I passed by their house today and saw him and a few young boys digging into the compacted pile with shovels and a pick.

A few minutes after I got home, I decided that they needed help and my small BX24 was just sitting in my shed doing nothing today. I threw on my FEL, box blade and SMV sign (had them off in mowing mode) and headed down the street to offer assistance (yes, I have KTAC insurance). As I pulled up, I could see the relief in their faces and asked them if I could help.

I finished spreading and leveling the recycled asphalt a few hours later and never felt better about life. They insisted on paying me but I wouldn't take any money from them. His wife insisted on giving me something so I now have a carrot cake on its way sometime soon.:thumbsup:

I think the best part is the lesson that the young men with the shovels learned. They saw you help without solicitation or hesitation. They will remember this and will do the same for someone down the road. In this way you made the world a better place.

its always so nice when you can help some1 with a job they really need doing.here awhile back i got a friend to replace a hubb an bearing on our big tractor.an we was going to pay him but he would have none of it.still have todo something for him.but you just cant beat baked goods as a thank you.

I clear my neighbors drive of snow, 200 ft. One time this year I couldn't do it with the old equipment and I felt bad about it. Even had trouble with my own drive and that's what has got me the BX25.
His wife will bring over some homemade cookies. A little joke between my wife and I is, the tractor doesn't run on cookies but I do...

last summer we let my neices bf bale our 2nd cutting an take most of the hay,as long as he left us some hay.well i had just bought my kubota so i let him use it to load the hay out.an he brought 5 gal of diesel an filled my tractor up as a thank you.

I finally got a neighbor across the street in the rented house that takes care of the appearance of his home. (Wow, a renter who cares! ) I saw him outside one day shoveling in his driveway, he looked beat. SWMBO and I were about to leave to go check on garden plot, but I told her that I had to offer to help. Went over to talk to him and then I brought over my tractor and within minutes his driveway woes were over. I told him I appreciate all he does to make his yard look nice and that if he ever needs any help, just let me know. I didn't give him time to offer me anything, just said that wifey and I had to go run an errand. It does make you feel good.
