I was referring to a patient's arm, not my own. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Actually I have a blood pressure checker and put cuff on my own arm all the time. Of course I don't carry it around on my tractor anyway.

I sent for some literature on the QuickClot and it seems to have impressive results. Sounds like a good addition to any emergency first aid kit which would be used for power equipment injuries on job sites.

The 4/22 edition of the Wall Street Journal said the following
about some of these products....

The QuickClot powder would be in the drugstores by August 1
of this year and a total 20,000 stores by year end. A small
packed which has more than one dose for minor scrapes
and cuts will cost about $10.

The Hemcon Bandage is available by perscription for $139.
YIKES! And a perscription? They are only available until
after military requirements are met. The company will sell
a smaller and cheaper bandage for first aid kits but no time
frame was mentioned.

Dan

I just ordered by phone two First Responder Quickclots for $22 each. Should be here in a week. I'll put them in our first aid kits and hope to never need. They also have a military version which includes some gauze and bandaging for about $40.

herbenus,

I looked through the discussion and did not see the links
or the phone numbers. Must be getting old... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll give the number a call...

Thanks,

Just a thought to all you professional / quasi-professional rescue types...does administering this clot stuff fall under the relm of administering medication ?? I don't know about other parts of the country, but in my area as a firefighter, first responder, BLS instructor, I can't legally administer a medication. I can't even give someone an aspirin when 'on duty'. Even with folks with severe allergies, I can't leaglly administer their epi-pen ( to prevent shock ) to keep their airway open. We do have ways around this ( use their hand and push their finger /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ) but unless you're a doc or under the direct control of a doc, administering a med is a no-no.

I haven't see any rulings from the state EMS department yet.

Just a thought I thought I'd share.
