Yesterday i ran across some old farm toys and animals i had growing up, from late 60s. And the metal barn. Some newer stuff to. 0117181043.jpg0117181044b.jpg0117181045.jpg

Oct 14th, 2017- south central Utah. The day before the federal deadline for ranchers to remove their cattle from public grazing lands. My wife and I got "caught" going against the flow of "traffic". Based on the manure on the highway, the cattle were driven at least 3-4 miles down the highway. 6-8 cattle drivers- some as young as 8-10 year olds on horseback and atv's. It was being done as orderly/well as possible. Probably 300-400 head. I have a herd of 40 cattle and still found it fascinating to watch/drive through. This was a relative lull in the flow. There were times when we were completely surrounded and had to stop.

When we first move down from Ak, in '82, there were still two working dairies in the immediate area. Corporate America has taken care of that about thirty year ago. Man, do I enjoy that which, I guess, I shall never have again - fresh buttermilk.

Visit me in St Helens! The Pyengana Dairy Co. commercially sells "Real Milk" to the States various grocery stores.

Cream topped bottles of milk!

We cheat with buttermilk and just add 1 tbs of fresh lemon juice to 1 cup of fresh milk, stir and wait 5 minutes, voila!!

I remember when I was a little kid and binging the cows home from summer pasture. By the time we rounded them up in the pasture and got them to the corral at home it was between 2-5 miles. I strting helping when I was five but after a while my legs got tired. My older brothers would just pick me up and put me on a bull's back. Having been with the cows all summer they were tired and worn out and lagged behind the cows. They would jtust turn their head and look at what was on their back but my 50-60 lbs wasn't worth getting rid of so I rode them home. Good memories!

I have rode through many cattle and sheep drives on my Harley. I have no complaints at all. Well, other than it can be a bit slippery.
On a bike you can always smell the sheep long before you actually see them.:)
As others have stated, sit back and enjoy!
I did pass a monster buffalo in Yellowstone walking right down the middle of the road. I kept the Harley on the white line and was going about 10-15 mph. I ask my wife to get a picture for proof but she was so scared all she took was a blurry shot of it's butt after I passed it. Not sure I would want to do that again.

And when you grew up you went onto rodeos and bull riding?
