Those of you who peruse the orange forum (am I even allowed to use the "K" word here? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) might have seen my recent post regarding running an elm root into my radiator.

Right after that I noticed that my recent trip to a co-worker's pasture to get some old hay bales resulted in a couple of wires ripped from the underside of my 18' trailer. That one, mercifully, was a 5 minute fix with the right wire splice.

Today's adventure in equipment damage centered on my X495. I was backing a trailer load of elm limbs (I really, really, really hate elm trees /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif) close to a brush pile, when the trailer hitch popped off and rammed into the back of the transmission.

The only thing damaged was the round plate with says "Tuff Torq" that is held on by 6 bolts.

I hate to ASSume anything, but this appears to be something I can handle pretty easily once I get a new plate and a clean, non-dusty work area: get the oil pan out, remove old plate and transmission filter, install new plate and filter, re-fill with transmission fluid, and I'm on my way to the next catastrophe. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Have I ASSumed incorrectly? Have I missed anything? Should I beef up my life insurance policy? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You should have no problem replacing the cover. You named the things I would suggest (but careful tightening and proper torque is important on that aluminum plate).
The only suggestion, since you asked, would be to fix the trailer hitch. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I could only imagine you had a trailer hitch for a ball that was larger than the one on your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's what confuses me. It's a 2" ball and a 2" hitch. I shall have to do a bit more checking to make sure the lock isn't slipping off. The trailer is a 4x8, and I use it each Monday evening to take the trash to the road. I weigh about 200 lbs, and sometimes each trash can can push over 100. Even with me standing on the very end of the trailer and pulling up the heavy trash cans, the hitch has never slipped off. Why it came off just carrying a light load of elm limbs is beyond me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Went by the dealer today and ordered the new plate and gasket. $35. If only the radiator fix on my Kubota would be as cheap. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I need to invest in a decent torque wrench. I saw them at Lowe's the other day by the checkout line but didn't see the price.

How Ironic!

You're not really considering crawling under your tractor to fix this yourself, are you? Don't you have any neighbor's you don't like?

The plate is on the back, so I won't have to crawl underneath it, except to change the transmission filter. And even that's not a problem with the deck removed.

And even if I did have neighbors I didn't like, NO ONE touches my X495. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
