LMTC,

"This dealer may have passed another potential sale on the unit once you had made your deal."
What bothered me about the deal on the NH (which is also a partial answer to your response) was the statement by Bugstruck:
"He agreed in that he could do the deal at $21,500.00 if the tractor had not sold in the next couple of days...
Sounds to me as if the dealer would have sold it out from under him too!

And as for playing monday morning quarterback...
It hurts so much less ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If a dealer has no contract signed and no down payment money to bind a deal, how can he sell something "out from under" someone /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif--If a dealer held every piece of equipment for the "Be backs" as KiotiJohn calls them?? I bet a large percentage of most dealers inventory would be held in limbo for these guys and other potential sales would be lost for no good reason. Bottom line, If a buyer can find a fair deal, he should bind it with a down payment and then everyone would know exactly where they were. Sadly, The good old days of handshake deals are quickly coming to a end--Ken Sweet

( As for the the dealer with the used tractor... he didn't hold to his initial agreement either. He agreed in that he could do the deal at $21,500.00 if the tractor had not sold in a the next couple of days, then in final negotiations, Thursday, decided after having just come from another dealer (and just then noticing) that he had quoted me too low and needed another 495.00 (than he had needed on Tuesday) to make the deal happen. )

There was no deal if the dealer retained the option of selling the tractor. That isnt even a handshake since the dealer can sell the tractor. That was a price quote. A price quote which the dealer then changed. If no money changes hands, there is no deal, period. If there was a deal the dealer couldnt change the price.
