A good load to kill that would be a 525 gr. pile driver out off my Marlin 45/70.

Wow! That's a big slug. I think a 12 gauge slug is about 480 grains.

How would a big hog like that taste as a BBQ?

Awful! and your smoker wouldn't smell right for months after having that nasty beast in it.

As boars, they're pretty strong tasting and smelly at anything over 100lbs. The sows are typically good to about 150lbs. I prefer most of my eating hogs to be about 85lbs or less.

At the 85lb size, they are surprisingly good eating. Especially if they've been visiting corn feeders. Age them for a few days and soak in a salt/bourbon brine, followed with a pork rub.

Not only would he taste terrible, but the smell alone would run anyone off. The best comparison I can come up with would be to boil urine in a cast iron skillet!

Sounds tasty. Think I'll pass. Ed

What would one do with a hog that size then? Use the hide for footballs and scrap the rest of it? Seems like a huge waste.

Not much you can do with them. We trap some for a rancher and he gets about forty cents a pound for them alive. However, a hog that large would tear up most traps. Basically, you shoot them and drag them off for the buzzards. It is a waste, but there's no real market for them and their populations are spiraling out of control in some areas. On the 2600 acre ranch I hunt, we trapped/killed 82 of them the other year and we still have just as many.

Awesome picture!!! I finally got tired of all the hogs eating my corn and scaring away the deer that I build a log wall around 3 sides of my feeder and then a wire fence across the front side so we can see what's in there from the blind. I'm to the point I'm bored with shooting hogs and would much rather see more deer. We still shoot them when we see them, but we've only seen a couple of them since building the wall last year.

And when we do see hogs, I prefer to let my wife shoot them

Do you refer to her as 'dead eye'? Or 'eagle eye'?

Eliminate it. It is not good for eating.

Hogs are a big problem in some areas. They are non-native, very invasive and incredibly destructive to habitat.

A hog, unless it is a farm animal, on a farm, should really be exterminated.
