so do you have jeep(s) too?

I think that arcticle was in the JP mag a few months back. I was not too impressed with the write up. They tend to leave out too many key points and parts you needed.

I have a Howell kit on my 258. Basically it is a GM TBI with a different chip in the ECM. Works real nice. Always runs on the hills.

Hey checked your profile. I see you have an XJ. That is what got me started. I no longer have that jeep. It is replaced by about 7 others at the moment. What part of NY are you? I went to a Jeep Jamboree in the Adirondacks a while back.

Thomas, I have learned from working on my cars, that if you take the technology of today, and add it to the over built equipment of yesterday, you get the best of boulth. Now back in the day[50’s, 60’s,70’s] they did not know how the motors would be stressed. So what they did was just overbuild everything. Much like the old barns. They did not know how big to make the beams, so they just made them HUGE. Well, today, every thing is figured out on computers. They know EXZACTLY where a motor will fail. So they beef up that part. Well, when you push it beyond that point.[Who would do that/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif] they brake. The old stuff just kept taking it. BUT, It sure is nice to get in your new car, hit the key, and drive away. OR, a motor that can make 150hp out of under 2 liters, AND be driveable.

Ya I am not a big fan of JP any more. They seemed to have made a big change about a year or so ago. Its not the same.

As for the XJ. I love it. Its a beat up POS, but it will go anywere, and never stops. I think they are the best 4wd you can get for little cash these days.

I had similar thoughts. I was thinking maybe one of our 9N's with a newer electronic fuel injected Cummins 6BT out of a dodge pickup.

WOOOOOOOHHHHH!!! And I thought I was out there./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I did hear that Cummins has a 4 cyl verson of the same motor. THAT would make a nice clean swap./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif[a bit rich for my pocket though]

Yes JP changed. It was about the time the editor Rick Pewe left. They also are doing a lot more rock crawling coverage. I really like the artcicles on the history of the jeep and other odd ball peices. I live about 12 miles from Butler where the Jeep was invented. I also run a Jeep club. www.hrja.com
We have alot of fun with the jeeps!

Yes Cummins has the 4cyl. 4BT with mechanical fuel injection, makes 145 Hp. We used to have one on our 19' seine skiff. It powered an 18" tractor jet. Thats a working boat with a water jet drive for the landlocked crowd.
