Dolmars for me. But nothing wrong with stihl or husky either. My decision is based more on price vs performance. I feel Dolmar offers more saw for less $$.

Ecco's arn't easy to get here, mostly sell through small mowershops. I've heard very good things a bout Dolmar, most guys who have then love em, but again not really available over here.
What do you guys use to sharpen chains, I prefer a file however bought a Timberline jig from the U.S. and it absolutely rocks, very quick and doesn't chew into your chains. If you hadn't seen it check it out on Utube. The biggest problem in Australia is the massive price difference, I saw the MS660 listed for $2100 at stihl last week. Even tractors are massively overpriced here. My Kioti DS3510 was $24.5K with a 4 in1 and a brush hog, over in the USA I could have got a much bigger tractor with Hydro... Grumble

A good file will do but I prefer to use a dremel tool with the grindstones to fit. That and a good flat file to take the clearers down when needed will let you keep it razor sharp.

I'll use a round file for touchups between each complete sharpening with one of these:

Roughneck Bench- or Wall-Mounted Chain Saw Sharpener | Chain Saw Chain Sharpeners Maintenance| Northern Tool + Equipment

you could buy the more expensive Oregon but my brother has one and from what I can see, the Northern is a rebranded Oregon.

had the wife out cutting wood todayView attachment 392100

Dream on turkey.....

Cutting power all has to do with how sharp the loop is, not the powerhead and yes, domestically sold Stihl's are a victim of the emissions police and need to be modified to make decent power.

I'll take a cheap Tanaka with a 7 year warranty over a Stihl anyday. I returned a Stihl Professional Arborists Saw (700 bucks) because it was a turd, had no power, not enough to limb with a 10" bar and on advice of another professional arborist, got a Tanaka top handle Arborist saw fot 249 bucks than cuts circles around the Stihl out of the boix. Of course I keep all my loops surgically sharp. I dress my loops everytime I use a saw, either by hand filing with a guide or a Timberline.

For 700 bucks, I expect more than a turd. The comment about Stihl being the choice of professionals is not true today. It might have held water 20 years ago but today, for all but the largest saws, Husky is the choice, not Stihl. Husky hasn't succumbed to the emissions ploice...yet.

Timberline jig has all 5 star reviews on amazon.com. Expensive but ordered one yesterday. Been using a hand file for years and getting tired of the hassle and poor results. Anxious to try out the Timberline and hopefully it will live up to the rave reviews.

I second those who like Echo. That is an old Japanese company, and I've used about every Japanese make in Japan over my many years living there working at a camp. If my Stihl dealer had sold Echo, that's what I would've bought. Only Home Depot has them in my area of Georgia. My Mississippi Stihl dealer has Echo, but I only cut at my Georgia land.

Yes that's what I have, it really is excellent, I was trying toots a pic but was having problems with the computer. By the way the carbide burrs last a lot longer than they advertise.
