The one that resorts to name calling loses the argument.

Son, do you know my experience or expertise? I suggest you take your big rig Kioti and ride off into the sunset on your back 5 acres :D

Who was that masked man??????????:D

Coyote Machine,

Do you know the difference between a homeowner, farm saw, and pro saw?

What makes each level safer than the other? Is it a 3 part scale of danger?

Why is a pro saw more dangerous than a regular saw? What's the difference?

Do you think 3/8's low pro is going to cut you less than 3/8's?

Is it that a homeowner saw won't cut a finger off, but a pro saw will?

I'm confused. Do trees cut with homeowner saws not fall on people, but pro saw trees will kill?

I believe the homeowner, farmer, professional designation refers more to the quality, weight, and expected life of the saw. The professional saws also have more vibration isolation, for comfort for extended use. Does being a farmer make someone more qualified to run a certain saw than a homeowner? If it were soley based on power/performance of the saw why would they have the ms391 designated as a farm/ranch saw, but the ms261 as a professional saw?

This does however exclude top-handle saws and certain chains, in which they have a warning stating they are only to be used by professionals. For these particular examples, I will agree (to an extent) with what was stated.

My top handle has no such warning about pro use only.

The 192t isn't a pro grade saw as a matter of fact.

Power to weight ratio and throttle response along with a magnesium case.

I think a farmer has been around a lot more dangerous machinery so I would probably trust one more than a suburban homeowner? If he can run augers, tractors, combines etc then at least he probably knows more about potential hazards and safety.

Valid point how some farm/homeowner saws can be rated with a higher CC than a pro model.

Well, I was not aware of that. I remember seeing a warning either in Stihl's catalog or website, and I thought it included both of their top-handle saws.

I, admittedly, own a top handle- an old 015L. It's actually my favorite saw. It has no brake whatsoever, and I guess I would be classified as a homeowner... I must really be in trouble.

Well maybe their marketing department should change the designation to "suburban, yuppie, idiot." I have been around a lot of machinery in my life, but am still by definition just a "homeowner." I am an industrial mechanic and probably see more dangerous scenarios on a daily/weekly basis than most people I know.

I just don't get what makes someone a pro. No disrespect at all to some of the Asplundh workers, but some of them don't look all that professional. There can be moron farmers, moron homeowners, and moron pros. You can't lump every in as one. I know some homeowners that solely heat with wood so their well being depends on running saws and they are super safe individuals that wear all the safety gear.

I'm not a pro, but I started using a saw when I was 12. I wear chaps, steel toe boots, gloves, eye and ear protection. I've actually bought books on cutting trees and I've cut a heck of a lot of trees. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but there are trees I know I can take down and there are trees that I don't mess with. It's not worth my life for a tree.

To say only a "pro" can run a pro saw is beyond silly.

No disrespect at all. Please see the below post.
