High Frequency Unit

Does anyone recognize this unit? The manufacturers name plate is worn illegible, I need to get a manual for it. Ron

Has a CSA mark so using the registration number shown of LR 12812 you should be able to contact CSA Group Product Listing - CSA Group and ask. The registration number is not in the current format so the online form didn't work for me.

the manual is here. Century Universal High Frequency Arc Stabilizer manual BTW, you are missing the power switch, so it won't work as is..

I've used that model before, not really much you would need the manual for. Plug it in, hook it to a welder, turn it on and weld with it.

I wasn't very impressed with the unit I used, it didn't have as much spark as the miller version. I've used 3 of the miller ones and they will light up very reliably.

Mark, I picked the unit up at the auction along with a MW AC/DC 230A welder for 15$. No one else bid on it. Complete with TIG torch and regulator, cables and hose. Hope it works. I don't have a clue on TIG welding. Either learn or sell it after I make sure it works. Might need to see Carl about it.

Thanks for all the help on this. Yes, confirmed as a Century unit. For those who do not know Century is a branch of Lincoln Electric. Have an inquiry to them now to see if there is a better rendition of the manual.

New question, I do not have argon but have CO2. From my ancient pipefitter memory, seems like CO2 can be used for SS and mild steel, is that true? I want to try it out after I get it cleaned up, the arc gap checked/adjusted, and a new power switch installed.

I tried to sign up on the Welding Web but they apparently do not like me so nothing happened.

Co2 will not work for tig, you do need Argon.
WeldingWeb is still experiencing issues from the recent changeover...hopefully they'll get it right soon

Ron, I was at Pacific Welding Supply in Bremerton looking for a deal on a small tank (Argon) for Aluminum MIG and eventual TIG (no machine yet). No deals there even though the tanks were on 'sale' and that's an understatement. Why are some so proud of used tanks. They would make more from me in refills I would like to think.

I'm not in a hurry but if you find more than one bottle that you need in your scavenger hunt... let me know.

You really don't want to contaminate your tig torch with CO2. And if you strike an arc it will fry the tungsten. No tig welding without Argon or Helium. Good luck !!
