The problem with getting the HH140 is that this will start............. and there are No pills for this...<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/welding/411364-hobart-handler-140-mig-welder-ok-view-jpg"/>

Not true. There are pills that will stop it, but unfortunately you won't be around to enjoy your tools. :(

That's so funny & TRUE!! I got along for 30 yrs. without a welder just fine, but I bought a tractor, then some attachments, then a stick welder, then a dry-cut saw to cut steel, then 2 welding helmets, grinders, respirators, gloves, shields, carts, cables, stingers, ext. cord, welding blankets, clamps, cheap welding table, and some other stuff I can't even think of, all in the last 1.5 yrs.;)

Gentlement, this isn't a disease - it's a BLESSING. (Disease is running out of money before you run out of toys to acquire, or space to put 'em) :D:D:D...Steve

Yes, the S6 wire is very common. Should be available just about anywhere welding supplies are sold.

I am glad to see positive reviews, I did not know about switching the polarity of the machine when using gas, Thanks.

The ER70S6 wire is that wire a common wire?

If you're going to spring for the welder, spring for the gas. Get the largest bottle you can load/cart to/from the supplier. You won't regret it.

I have the 140 and it's a decent machine, as long as you respect it's limits. Every once in a while, I run into a problem around the homestead that I can't tackle with it, but never anything that costs enough to hire out to justify stepping up to a bigger machine. I like the fact that I can plug it into a standard outlet or extension cord and boogie...and as has been stated, go for the gas...cheaper to run solid wire. Keep a roll of flux core on hand for outside on a windy day, and you'll be good to go.

I am going to set up the welder with gas per the suggestions, will get a bottle, so I should get it filled with 100% argon or the mix?
Also how do I transport the bottle? on its side ok?

You will want a bottle of 100% CO2, or a bottle of 75% argon & 25% CO2.
I lay all my bottles on there side, except my acetylene bottle.
