I've got a hobart stickmatelx235AC.. I wonder why they aren't carrying them anymore?

I love my welder.. plenty of amps to weld big stuff like 1/2 " plate.

I think because so many people want the AC/DC model instead. I dont have a stick macine myself..but if I were to buy one..the AC/DC version is the one Id go after

If I welded alot.. sure.. but for my simple farm reapirs.. I only need to glue big metal together occasionally.

For the huge price difference between AC and AC/DC ( over 100$ ).. I can buy lots of 4" grinder wheels.. after grinding a bit. the welds look pretty much the same !

Get rid of all that 6011 & 7018 , chuck it in a deep hole in a swamp. Why use 6011 and then have to cap it with 7018 to make it look good. Get some AC/DC MG 500, or 600 and be done in one pass. I find it sometimes on ebay at a good price.

But lots of people are buying their first ( or only) welder. They dont make their big $$ on "repeat" buyers

So then why get rid of the best priced economy ac/dc machine.. if they get a more spendy one.. I forsee 'less' sales..

According to JohnK, post #1, this thread. TSC is discontinuing carrying the hobart stickmate lx ac/dc model.

AFAIK.. it is the cheapest AC/DC stick machine in that amp range.. IE.. a very good deal.. etc.

Easy and cheap enough to build a rectifier to use D/C on a A/C machine.Hadn't gotten around to doing it because I have a engine driven welder too.

I THINK what they are ceasing to product is the "straight" LX model..the "AC" only model....NOT the AC/DC model

That might also just be a line of BS from TSC also...because Miller isnt killing the Thunderbolt..and its the same identical welder

It was the AC/DC model they had on closeouts. They had two of them for sale at 20% off because they said they aren't carrying them anymore. I didn't ask why, I just bought one. I got that for a little over the cost of an AC only model. It seemed like a great deal... They still had the hOBART ac and they weren't on sale or closeout.....
