International Hydro 84, John Deere 4600
Hello everyone! I came across this site several months ago when I was looking for infomation regarding my tractor. Since that time I have read more threads than I can remember that were very useful to me. Thanks to all of you who take the time to share your experience with those of us who have relatively little!

My wife and I purchased a parcel of property (68 acres) that is about 25 minutes from our residence last year. We have been looking for property since we were married and finally found the right piece at the right price. I was also the fortunate recipient of a tractor given to me by my aunt who was moving last year and no longer in need of it. :D:thumbsup: (International Hydro 84)

There were some delays in the closing process for the property but we had permission from the seller to be on it prior to closing and found a large patch of blueberries growing which were most likely planted 20 years ago. I would estimate that we have around 1/2 acre right now (200 or so bushes) but have plans to expand this "patch" to around 5 acres. Additionally, we have tapped around 200 Maple trees this spring which have produced around 800 gallons of sap for us so far, not including the gallons that have spilled on the ground due to faulty bag installation (learning curve!). We may also look into beekeeping.

We absolutely love the land and believe that the farming aspect will teach our three homeschooled daughters about hard work, how to earn money and customer interaction (at farmer's markets).

When my Dad purchased his backhoe a number of years ago he grinned and informed me that women's lives were fulfilled after bearing children and men's after purchasing a backhoe! We've always chuckled about this but after getting some a fair amount of "seat time" over the past 7 months or so I can now understand the sentiment he was sharing!! Love my tractor!

Welcome David!

I agree...there is something rather relaxing about rolling over the property, feeling and hearing the diesel rumble, experiencing the fruits of YOUR labor and a job well done. Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome to TBN.
Now instead of 'donuts'...
Say 'seat time' in your best Homer Simpson voice...
With a faraway look on your face.

There, that probably describes the majority on TBN when those words are mentioned.

Hope you enjoy...

:D

Enjoy the homeschooling. Our boys have been homeschooled here on our farm since the beginning. Oldest graduates this month.
