Thanks again for the info and ideas. A skidder is a possiblity though they always look like they would tear things up a fair amount. It also would be lots easier to get things past the wife if I had one machine that could do a bunch of things rather than several machines with one or the other sitting around. I agree more toys are better but less toys (but more capable) keep the peace.

Oh they sure do.

I've never been married, and therefore can't relate completely, but still, I think I can actually feel your pain. Good luck with ALL of the factors involved in your decision. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello Catvet,

We are in logging country and we sell many utility tractors set up for what you are doing. I would save the money and buy a good utility tractor with a skid steer compatible loader and grapple and then add a 4 or 5 ton 3 point log winch. You will save about 20 to 30K and have a very nice, very capable piece of equipment.

Here is some pictures I posted of a 43hp tractor with Tajfun winch.

Nice logging setup

Best of luck,
Maka

Nice hitch of logs there. I don't like dragging them around in the dirt and gravel that way, as it is real hard on the chainsaw or saw teeth. I prefer at least one end of the log off the ground. Just fussy I guess. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

He was just messing around but you can just lift one end off the ground and move them easily. That one can move 8800lbs.

Excellent way to go.

Thanks,
Maka

Thanks for the ideas and pics. The more input the better. Do you set up the tractors with skid plates etc.? to protect the tractor? How about FOP for both tractor and operator?
