Beautiful Work!
Question....why did you decide to build your own? Was just wondering because you dont often see "home built" Rotary Cutters.....Did you want something "super heavy duty"....Overall I am very impressed with your build. Cant wait to see the rest of it.

I built my power rake because I just dont see them as being worth 8k new, or 6k used....... On the other end of the spectrum, I couldnt have built a 6' Tiller for what I got Sovema (used) for...

Great job on it!! Be sure and post some closeup's of the gearbox once you get it mounted. Are you going to put a slipclutch on it? I would think/hope so with such a heavy duty unit.

Renze, the Int'l Agritech bush hog I have is made with C channel on the sides and they are plenty enough stout for my use.

Class A+ this gives me a good idea of what to use on the one I'm rebuilding,
I was going to replace the apron/skirt with 12 Gauge steel, and then tie it in with wrapping the corners with 1 1/2 angle iron, But now that I see the Channel iron used as the apron I like this much better, what size is this? 5" or 6" channel ?
Thanks for posting pix

I made mine to replace the deck of the old JD506 I have. I'm going to use the old gearbox, which works fine. I also bought new cutters and will replace the gearbox bearing before reinstalling. My old deck rusted completely out. The new one has 8ga deck and 1/4' skirt.

I'm looking forward to trying it out !
Bye for now,

Bye for now,

Why the fancy top member? Is this a flexible link - hard to tell in the pic.

I have a brother who lives in Fort St John. So, what's a Bluenoser doing up there?:)

Hi mwb, yes, that's a flexible link to allow the mower to tilt up about 45 degrees. I don't want anything breaking in a little hill or pothole. I had issues with that on the old one.

As far as being a Blunoser in FSJ (way up on the Alaska Highway for those who aren't familiar with it), this town is full of Maritimers! This is where the work is. This is quite a transient town. It seems most folks are from elsewhere. I've been here 14 years, and have another ten to go... then it's back to my little farm in Nova Scotia. The West is a great place to make a go of it though. You just have to have the discipline to stick with it. There are good adventures, and lots of opportunity out here.

Bye for now,

Blunosr:

Couple of questions:

What is the eye bolt for? Lifting for cleaning and sharpening?
Also, what is the plate welded to the rear for? Looks like it could be for a hitch?

Nice work. How did you get the nice curved sides?

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
